EU number plate

Probably not at all And I’m not going to bother and keep the ones I have it says GB and was put on during our membership. (It’s also a little act of defiance)

why GB?

thought we had UK on our new plane?
You can have several possibles , BUT you will still need the BIG Oval GB to be legal overseas

GB doesn't include Northern Ireland. We are 'The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Island' bit long for a number plate mind 🤔
Should that read "We are 'The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, except Scotland and Wales that seem to want to wander off the UK agenda every now and again just to show they can"? Now, that would be a national identifier! :giggle: :giggle:

But the new plane is just The United Kingdom.

so is it GB for northern ireland citizens when the travel in europe ?

Cymru

(or Wales )

or Scotland

would be more accurate descriptions of country of origin of the vehicle .

opps sorry

and England ,,,,,,Of course. :giggle: :giggle:

far clearer than GB (or UK for that matter.)

......but has to be sticky plastic GB sticker on the nearside rear for all of us to be legal.

But not if you have the Euro plates apparently.
Euro symbol
If you display the Euro symbol and Great Britain (GB) national identifier on your number plate, then you will not need a separate GB sticker when travelling within the European Union.

The Euro symbol must:

  • be a minimum height of 98mm
  • have a width between 40 and 50mm
  • have a reflective blue background with 12 reflecting yellow stars at the top
  • show the member state (GB) in reflecting white or yellow

It’s going to be far cheaper just to place the GB sticker on rather than replace the plates and if independence happens for Scotland and Wales it will be far cheaper to get a white Eng sticker.

The Froggies still have a choice to refer to us as GiBis or Rosbifs.

Ours is GB with EU rings above so think we'll be ok for now 👌

Here's a mixture..

As an aside, I find the EU 'flag' a particularly naff design, seemingly done by a twelve year old.

This is only until Dec 31st. From January you need the GB sticker even if you have the EU style number plate. The gendarmes around these parts are enjoying telling holiday home brits all about it.

GB refers to the island of Britain and thus Northern Ireland is not included. That's why we see on TV GB and NI when athletes from NI are in the team.

WRT Wales, I don't see why they have their own designation. Unless I am seriously mistaken, they are a region of England as set out in the laws in Wales Acts put in place by Henry VIII. I don't recall this status being changed, but am happy to be corrected if someone can cite the appropriate legislation that changed this status. That's why Wales have an Assembly rather than than a Parliament.

Scotland have a Parliament as they are an independent country joined to England by an act of union.

Now's the time to take shelter :)
