This thread only applies to Nationals of non- countries who are also Residents of EU countries.

I have searched all the EU pronouncement I can find and they all say that the EES will apply to all non-EU Nationals entering the EU. There is however no mention of whether or not it applies to those of us who are Residents of EU countries.

The ETIAS system does not apply to Residents of EU countries so it would be strange if the EES does apply.

If EES does not apply will we be entitled to join a queue which is not subject to the delays being forecast for those having to have fingerprints taken on first entry after the start of the system?

I would be interested as well nicholsong. We are permanent Cyprus residents and have been here since 2002 holding a MUWK3 card. Also can’t find any clarification.Just picked this up online.Cyprus is not in Schengen.

I would assume it will not apply as fingerprints have already been supplied to obtain photographic residency cards & the same as nationals with ID cards if the photo matches the card all is good. This is why Etias doesn¡t apply to us.

I always will use the shortest queue. I always used to go through the red " items to declare" channel years ago as no one used it & I had nothing to declare.

Having had a rummage about it appears that the EES is a part of the ETIAS scheme so I would think as we are exempt from ETIAS the same would apply?

The first link I found for ees said this

The Entry/Exit System (EES) will be an automated IT system for registering travellers from third-countries, both short-stay visa holders and visa exempt travellers, each time they cross an EU external border

Those resident in EU countries presumably fall into the visa exempt travellers category. I would have thought that the eventual aim is that paseports of those living inside the EU will contain the biometric details so everyone will be checked whether EU nationals or third country nationals anyway.

Poland only took index fingerprint on each hand, but EES requires 4, so I do not know what they do then.

Hopefully nothing.

As for EES being part of ETIAS: EES is scheduled to start in May 2023 and ETIAS in November. Strange?Well not really the EU sometimes cannot even find the brewery never mind organise .....

Just at tunnel and saw this in paper version of The Connexion. It’s behind a paywall but you get a few free articles.
There seems to be a lot of pessimism regarding wait times at ports/airports increasing. 10 mins to get through for a family of four in a car, compared to 1.5 mins currently.

Easy solution ask for the UK to take part. It would streamline travel across the channel it would mean people refused access to the EU would immediately be flagged up and make it easier to track Schengen days

Have taken pics of article from paper version.
