I have a Peugeot 1998cc Petrol engine 1997 motor home
drives and starts well except after 20/30 miles when you come of the accelerator it starts to splutter if you turn engine of and leave it for 20minutes it’s ok again until it gets hot again ,the temperature gauge is normal ,Ive replaced plugs could it be the coil pack breaking down when it gets hot

Have you checked your fuel filters and the pickup in the tank?
It can happen ,Iv had it especially on tractors, you are going along but the dirt is collecting in your filter and stops it, when you stop it the dirt falls to the bottom again and away you go till it collects it up again.

Think Chaser is looking down the right road. If it’s safe to do set yourself up a separate fuel supply and source. Pipe work and can. This will then eliminate wether fuel or electrical problem. It does sound fuel related

All the gear, and no idea!
I used to have a Volvo 340 car that’d do 11-12 miles then come to a spluttering halt, a wait of a few minutes and it was good to go again for another 11-12 miles!!

Does anyone want to guess what was wrong with it, before I tell you in a while?😉

Can't see it being the coil if it only starts spluttering on the over-run. The coil would start breaking down under load as well.
More like a fuel problem as revs die down.

As mentioned. Try driving without the fuel cap fitted.

Sorry I’m causing a bit of confusion to the OP
For those who had a guess on the Volvo it was the foil pipe between the exhaust manifold and the air filter housing, it was missing and causing the carb to freeze🙄

There may be a small hole in the cap ,which could be blocked, or a pipe fitted onto the filler pipe neck. As mentioned, the easy way to check this is to leave the cap off (or loose) for a test run (without the tank being to full) and see if things improve .

Some said that if it’s better then what
When you drive fuel is sucked out the tank. This creates a void in the tank that replaced with air via a small hole in the filler cap. If the hole in the filler cap is blocked then you just create a vacuum in the tank which eventually stops fuel leaving the tank.
Easy check, drive with cap off the tank. If it is the problem, new cap, or take apart and clean. Easy and simple possible cause to remove from list 👍🏻👍🏻

Hi.
Coming in at the back end of this. One motor had the fuel line running near the exhaust manifold, this caused the fuel to evaporate i was told. The only thing i am sure of is,on a Mazda i had years ago,you had two settings for the Air filter ,Summer and Winter... For Winter,it was pointed to the back of the rad to catch the warm air. No electric thingies to go wrong there then 929 Mazda estate, never put a foot wrong..late 70-early 80's ?.
