Engine Oil specification Rapido 3litre Mercedes (1 Viewer)

looking at some old invoices for service for my Rapido 3 Litre motorhome and oil shows 11 litres of Mercedes Benz low ash 228.51 and having checked with my latest service invoice dealer has used
Valvoline MC 3, 5w 40 229.5. Its registered Jan 2008 so I think its a Sprinter 318 cdi , don't think it has DPF.
Anyone have any ideas if this is the correct specification , lots of conflicting information on google !

I always thought oil was oil, natural or synthetic, as long as it has the right weight for your engine surely it should be ok?

However, I wait in earnest (he's a bit of a tight fit, ohh err missus) to be educated!

I always use Mobil 1 ESP

I think the correct oil is either 229.31 or 229.51
Both fully synthetic
Best to ring the MB dealer and check
I used Mobil newlife OW-40 on my last service
V6 3lt diesl 204 hp
