I’m a newbie😎 Picked up C’More 17 June 2022
Hi all, I was driving on the motorway yesterday and all of a sudden my Hymer Fiat 2.3 140 started beeping and slowed down to 77k. I can’t find the recommended brand oil, but did find I-Sint P 5W-30. Not sure what the P is for. Also, no where on the container does it say for Fiat. Can I use this or should I wait until tomorrow, drive with the light on and find somewhere to have it serviced? 🤷‍♀️

The problem is you don’t know what oil is in there, Demi synthetic, synthetic etc.

Personally I would get an oil change done then you know.

I'm fairly certain it should be fully synthetic 0-30W meeting the ACEA C2 Spec.
If it is still under warranty make sure you put the correct oil in as if you were to have a major engine problem they will test the oil.

Mine is a 2.3 140HP and that is what is specified.
Original oil = Selenia WR Forward 0W-30

Is it this one that Fiat advise for the latest Ducatos?

The thing you must make sure is you don’t mix semi and full synthetic.

They don’t get on 😊

This is the oil my Fiat professional approved workshop fits, as I saw all the empty 45 gallon drums outside the workshop, It meets all the Fiat Ducato specs, and is much easier to find, especially if you only need a one litre top up to carry on board.

Search the web you may find a better deal, but here's an example.

Update- I went to an Iveca/Fiat place. They looked up my vin number and it said Selenia WR Forward SAE OW-30. They sold me what’s in the photo. I’m glad I asked on here because another place was recommending 5W-30. The oil level doesn’t come at all any more but the oil light and engine light stays on when I turn the key without the motor running. I guess I’ll find out tomorrow if I can drive over 77. 😬. Thanks for all the feed back, it’s nice to have a place to question what others are saying.

Sounds like the oil sensor needs changing, used to be a simple job years ago, to test continuity between the two terminals, not so sure these days though.
As long as the oil pump is doing its job, sending oil arround the engine, then its not serious.

The wrong oil is better than no oil

I know a couple of people who’ve experienced the generic warning light coming on (red triangle). Diagnostics confirm faulty oil level sensor (big expensive fix on latest Ducato), but using the correct oil (as described above) solves the problem.

Initially, I would be more concerned why the oil light appeared, do you not check your levels or is it a sudden loss of oil?

When I give my 2007 Fiat 2.3 X250 an oil change, I use any, good quality, fully synthetic oil ( Shell, Mobil 1 etc) and my van never uses any between oil changes but I change it & filter, every 2nd year (10.000mls approx)

I also use the Shell Helix in my 1989 VW T25 'Westy' camper, without problems.

The 2008 X250 Euro 4 we had never used any oil between services. Both the X 250 Euro 5+ and the current X250 Euro 6c use about a litre every 6000 - 8000 miles.

Agree 100%.. I cannot honestly remember the last time I had to put any oil in any of my vehicles between oil changes..
Unless an obvious leak the modern engine just does not use/burn oil.

Which engine has your van got as the Fiat 2.3 from around 2014 certainly do.

What did the dipstick read, or has latest engine only got a sensor? Hope its a lot easier to get at than the twin egr model , hidden behind the Lpegr cooler.
