Had this message today from Eurotunnel.

Eurotunnel is no longer selling Frequent Traveller bundles of tickets and these will not be reinstated. However we are continuously reviewing the products we sell and by being part of My Eurotunnel you will be the first hear of new offers and partnerships we offer to our customers.

So it sounds to be the end of a scheme we used a lot and much appreciated. Hope Eurotunnel comes up with something else soon.

I thought this was coming. We’ll probably try Newhaven Dieppe in future and see how the dogs get on. I’m not sure I could face Dover again even without the current problems. I certainly wouldn’t want to pa Tunnel prices more than once a year if that.
Does anyone think it would make a difference if ex FT customers sent them copies of ferry bookings?

I’ve got 8 crossings left!
Do you have to use them by the end of the year? We have used all ours and our next crossing will be ferry Harwich /Hook if Holland. We have used Eurotunnel since its inception but ordinary tickets are very pricey now!

You only have until the end of the year to use them. If your not going to be taking four trips before then you could consider sharing (selling) with someone on here and getting some of your money back. It's easy to do and you would sell them in 5 minutes 👍

Actually if that's of interest I could take 4 of them off you 👍
I don’t think it’s possible now. I believe it needs both names when ordered.
Could be wrong though

You can share with someone at any time not just at set up but you cannot unshare and then share with someone else.

DO you have the ability to share and can i buy 4 of them ?

How did you beat me to that !!!! ;)

I'd be up for 2 of them (if big map still needs 6 for himself)

We are unable to share purchased tickets but I think the interest shown demonstrates to Eurotunnel that they are being shortsighted in stopping selling frequent traveller tickets.

What's the problem with Dover? (other than seasonal problems like recently.) Used Irish ferries twice in the last year. Cheap, quiet, relaxing, simple.

That's a shame on both counts 🥹

Yep I totally agree. I've emailed them several times over the past few months, including pointing out that the ferries still offer ticket bundles. But each time I've just got a canned response :(

Though I wonder how many people will start using the ferry instead and how many (like us) will just suck it up and pay the full price because the tunnel is much quicker and more convenient than the ferry. In which case it might be a smart move by Eurotunnel to increase their revenues.

probably just suck it up, we are on our second trip this year at £600 per trip (we have a toad)
really disappointed that FT has finished with no plans to start again... but if the demand is still there at full price, which it must be, why would they discount

I'm truly not sure, I used it for more years than I can remember, 20 of them free of charge using priority boarding when it became available, so there was an incentive, and then it was 4/5 times a month on business but I always preferred to travel through Portsmouth. Dover always seemed messy and confusing, and then when I started to use the tunnel there was no contest.

I will be using the cheapest available.
Just in the throes of booking August and looks like Irish Ferries Dover (I know) because it is £280 cheaper than the tunnel for possibly a couple of hours (loading and unloading) quicker.
Thats a lot of wine

I’ve always used the tunnel because my dog stays with me but now P and O ferries have an on board dog lounge I will check out their prices.

Another Funster sorry to hear about the permanent demise of the FT scheme on the tunnel. It was great while it lasted. (y)

Perhaps unsurprisingly, they haven't stopped using rolling stock branded and promoting FT - seen earlier this month.

They haven't managed that since they opened. Negligible investment in maintenance and infrastructure over 20+ years and twice have scammed shareholders with 10 for 1 share reductions, the last of which appeared to be done solely so they could pay a dividend for the first time.

Bit like the elusive day trip tickets they have a whole website about but even the most bizarre dates and times fail get a reasonable price? I don't consider £90 for a bike and one person as VFM.

We do prefer the Tunnel and what was great about the Frequent Traveller (apart from the price) was the ease of changing the bookings. But the price difference between Tunnel and ferry is high, and suavecarve rightly points out that that money can be spent on wine, or indeed on meals out, markets, hotels, anything. We'll see how we get on Harwich/Hook of Holland. If going south or west in France might still use the Tunnel, but if going east then probably Harwich,
Interestingly we have friends who have just been to France in their MH but chose Stena from Harwich then drive west because they didn't fancy Dover, or the Dartford Crossing coming back.

My grandfather, who had forgotten more than most share fund managers will ever learn, said never buy shares in the Channel Tunnel.

He died before it actually opened, but even by then he had been proved right, and as above, he was proved right again and then again.

The tunnel should have been, and should be now a 100% government owned major infrastructure item.
If they can make a few quid from it, then all well and good, but it needs to run at a realistic price, which is not actually directly profitable to encourage cross channel trade.

One must not forget we are on an island, what happens on the mainland matters,
£10 return for a van would be a reasonable cost. £100 per van is not.
