Has anyone been to their local dealer yet? Recently visited mine to browse the accessory shop. Was stunned to see the outside forecourt completely empty, it normally displays around 100 or so new & used vehicles. The inside showroom was down to around 5 or 6 motorhomes, theres usually around 20 in there. Wonder what happens next? When will they get to replenish their stock? New van sales rely a lot on trade-ins. And who's going to trade in if the showrooms are empty 🥸

I think a lot of new to motorhomes will sell as soon as the world goes back to normal and they can holiday abroad in good weather with good food , it is not that easy in UK , have to book in advance, pay up front for a certain amount of days, arrival times restricted and early departure times. Showrooms will be full next year

NEC is cancelled because it’s impossible to social distance and there are not enough vans.
We are lucky as we have circa 40 used in stock and lots of brands but it’s difficult.

Roll on next year. Bought our first ever MH back in 2019 intending to go abroad in 2020. Everyone knows the familiar story from then on though.

Looks like lots of other events going ahead like festival of speed and motorhome shows (Warner's etc..). Is it because the huge NEC hangers are technically indoors?

There is that but my main concern are my staff. How can I tell them it’s safe when there are 20 people trying to get into one van. Most people don’t bother with masks now, touching, cleaning spraying down vans. My guys are careful but are all the public as stringent or not? It’s not a risk I am prepared to make and if I am not comfortable myself I would not expect my team to do it!

HAD to g o to a dealers as searching for a spare part their sales area was almost empty but their spares shop had been decimated by the new owners 8 display shelves have been removed to display more awnings according to staff but they had only three on show they used to have four in there

I'm not criticising your or other dealers decision. Just noticed a marked increase in other events now taking place.

Our local Webbs has been looking low on stock.
But I had to go on a waiting list for time in the workshop in late April. Got a slot later for the end of May.
So business is busy with follow-up work on sales and/or stock isn't hanging around long.

I didn’t think you were. I found it amazing driving to work on Sunday that a car boot sale was on going. No one wearing masks thousands of people in a field touching everything, handling cash and no social distancing at all…

My dealer usually has 100+ vans. None at present. Some new stock coming in but all taken up. He had one new Motorhome that 4 customers were fighting/bidding for.

Passed by Perthshire Caravans a couple of days ago and instead of it being rammed full (probably 100-200 units) there was just a handful in their yard!

The weather abroad might be more reliable but you can get good food in the UK.

Pullingers in Essex seam to have plenty of stock we drive by most days

Premium motorhomes had a small selection of new and used but nothing like they had 2 years ago.

Spinneys in Holmes Chapel have a big empty space where there should be hundreds of moho’s.

The odds are about 50:50 that there could be another lockdown by the time we reach October. It's a 3-way battle between the Delta (Indian) variant, the vaccines and NHS capacity.

When eventually mass market tourism opens up I'm guessing that many newbies who bought new MHs on finance will have regrets, and the used
MH market could turn into a buyer's market with values plummeting. Depends how long the pandemic lasts but typically it's 3-5 years so there might be more waves and spikes still to come. It might be 2025 before we reach normality and learn how to live with Covid instead of this yo-yo situation.

Perhaps this is the new normal? We could restart the calendar with BC meaning Before Covid and AC for After Covid.🙂

If that's the national situation it's hardly surprising that sites and the roads are so busy with m/h's since Covid.

...
We need to add flu and RSV into that mix. It could be a very tough autumn/winter.

Part of the reason we swapped from a caravan to a campervan this year was so that we can have days out, and have our own loo.
