When travelling with the Dometic fridge on 12v we are getting a beep and then the following message on our display 'STOP! Electronic Overheating'. (Picture attached) We turn the display off and then on again after about half an hour and it is fine for a while after. Can anyone give us any idea what might be causing this and what we can do?

On a mother note we need a new door handle/mechanism for the external door into the living area, does anyone know where can get this from?

Thank you

Nicky

@NickyandAndy You'll have a Reich ebox fitted I imagine ? Basically what happens is that the circuit board isn't man enough to supply the current the fridge needs (poor design). This results in the circuit board overheating and a new unit from Reich is around £750, or a repair and upgrade by Apuljak Engineering is around £400. Ask me how I know ?:(
On longer drives, I usually run the fridge on gas (now wait for the haters)

I drive everywhere with my fridge on gas... (and often on 12 volts at the same time.)

Always have... always will.

(And I drive bare footed with my grey water drain tap open.)

Thank you for the replies, yes we have the ebox fitted. What are the possible safety implications of driving with the fridge on gas? And how do you have it on gas and 12volts at the same time? Sorry very green with these issues!

Think he was being a bit, well, cynical....

To legally drive with gas switched on you need a special regulator which has a "G" sensor and switches the gas off if it detects an accident. Called Secumotion I think.

US RV fridges , or the ones I had don’t have a 12v option , just mains or gas.

I most certainly was NOT being cynical... see below.

And how do you have it on gas and 12volts at the same time

I have a 1987 Hymer 660S.

These motorhomes were built to last and contained equipment totally devoid of the computer controlled gizmos of today.

It has a three way fridge... the operator decides which power source to use. You can have it on gas AND electric (240 volt or 12 volt) if you want.

These days, in modern vans, the fridges often have automatic power selection... I read post after post after post where the selector system is having a wobbly and the fridge won't work.

Not with my fridge. I make the decisions... not a circuit board.

not such regulation.. only advice ..

drove for years with an RV with no crash sensor regulator.. AND the fridge was on gas while we drove.. as mentioned earlier many RV Fridges don't have a 12v option.
