Did anybody see the news last night about the all electric buses in Harrogate, brilliant concept, they are totally all electric, no emissions. It said all the buses in Harrogate are now fully electric.

As they stop at the station/bus stop(only certain bus stops obviously) huge hydraulic arms come down to the roof and recharge the bus in 6 minutes whilst passengers are getting on and off, what a wonderful idea. It never went into actually how the charging works and what is on the roof of the buses to allow this.

They were imported from Poland it said at a cost of 4 million quid, part funded by the government.

Anybody here live in Harrogate and been on one of these?

The future of motorhomes when we are all brown bread?

I saw them in operation last week but haven't actually been on one.

It's a great new idea to have electric busses??????? In the 1950s we had electric trolly busses running around near us--------- rather short on technology then but I believe at least they were made in UK????

Yes agree, but they all went didn't they so we have to now get some more and move on. I can see this concept really catching on.

Had a look at a few YouTube video's of the VW E Crafter this morning including a couple of road test.
Basically they have used the E Golf running gear which leaves it a bit short on range but ok for short local drops. With having the charge point in the original fuel filler position could lead to problems with charge leads being long enough.

Yes I have just read somewhere else at the minute they being powered(recharging being done) by a low emission diesel generator although stress its only a short term measure, that was never mentioned on the news last night.

Ive often noticed you only get partial news

Depending on the bias of the reporter/ editor
The bad stuff remains undisclosed or buried

Of course its clean at the point of use

The smoke belching power station is the
Effalump in the room

:whistle2::whistle2:

Nearly 30% of our power was provided by wind yesterday.

At recent Car meeting in Banbury got talking to local council official who was helping on event. Turns out they run some council vans that are electric, range 165 miles. BUT cold weather hit range dropped to 35 miles and struggling to use. Heater ,wipers and lights all dramatically effect range, still a long way to go I feel.

Doesn't mean we shouldn't stop trying does it?

There is a difference between trying and pissing about.

First there should have been a global study, an honest evaluation of whether EV is beneficial when the total cycle is analysed. It's quite simple, ICE or EV, what is best for mankind. Instead just chaos and greed rule.

It really should have been an EU decision - "here is the standard charge station, here is where they will be built". Then something to build on. Instead Type A here, Type B there, Type C next year.

Instead all we get is "ban this" "ban that" and the tossers with mighty pensions expect us to sort it out for them.

t really should have been an EU decision
Ho ho - I really disagree with this

...and this. Very little could ever comes out of "decision by committee" Fudge is all they're good for.
Instead just chaos and greed rule.
Committees are not immune from those "rules" either. So they tend to delay or side with the status quo, or wrap the whole project up in an impenetrable web of bureaucracy.

The market will decide.

I dont disagree , we must keep trying.

But at the moment
it seems we are damagingThe world we live in
by using more of the earths resources
Than we are saving .
To save it

Perhaps the world could ask people to maybe
Only have two children to replace themselves
May need a bit of help from some of the chuches maybe:pray:

I realise i have opened myself up for incoming flack

Standardisation of charging may be a bit wishful, but I wonder how many entrepreneurs are working on charging adapters at the moment. If so sensible legislation may be needed to make them legal, and to allow anyone to join individual charging systems if they so wish.

So from 2040 in uk all sales of fossil fuel vehicles will be banned. Not yet seen proposal for infrastructure to support electric vehicles being published. When are all inner city charge points being installed. At least all roads will be resurfaced when cabling installed for all lamppost chargers so no more potholes(y) With no income from tax on fossil cars what is new tax structure for electric, range, power number seats no ones talking about it. What's new power generating strategy, our eastern colleagues just pulled out of new power station program, no replacement yet. For me I still want to get up and at a whim drive off to South France without it taking days of waiting to charge. I'm not against electric, have been employed all my working life in motor industry developing and introducing new vehicles but I still feel not joined up thinking
As an aside pal of mine had the the Ipace on loan, tried to use its range to full, first two charge points didn't work. Ended up panicking about range and as he has a disability a garage owner took pity and ran a power lead from the office for him to recharge to get home. By the way he was responsible for developing aluminium technology for Jaguar and us still helping other manufacturers on this weight saving route. His car of choice 5.0lt supercharged F type as he says at least he can drive where he wants when he wants without worrying about range and time to charge.
Everyone still forgets modern petrol and diesel are far more efficient and cleaner than they have ever been.
Let's see the full impact laid out from power generation, infrastructure , recyclability of batteries all available before we jump on the clean bandwagon. I recall that vehicles only contribute to 10% of UK emissions should we not attack the bigger numbers with as much fever
Tin hat on :imoutahere:

When this sort of standardisation topic comes up I cite the fact that somehow hauliers got a standard traction unit and trailer design that is compatible across many countries and AFAIK did not involve governments and was pre-EU.

I think ev need another10 years to be anywhere near where they need to be

We bought my wife a new golf GTE plug in hybrid we get about 30 miles on electric only which suits her as she just runs around town all day so never turns the engine on it has done 4800 miles now and we have put less than £200 in petrol in the car from new and it costs about 50p to charge from flat to full which then gives 25-30 mile radius

They are just not practical for anything other than pure town work but it suits her life style
