Just back home (Spain) from 2 weeks in the Algarve whilst there i saw several Electric Scooters, that looked like they may carry 2 people, and had thin )ish) tyres and looked not to heavy so could be carried in a MH Garage without too much damage to the payload, and easy to put away. The only clue I seen was wording Electric Scooter? This may be the ideal to put in my Garage but they are new to me any one any idea how much they cost, how much they weigh, and the range on a full charge, and can they carry 2 persons? the only drawback maybe that I would need to spend most nights on a site with Electric to keep it charged (Normally I wildcamp) Any views, ? Thanks in advance. Mick

Hi, you see them in the UK, they are only electric bikes that look like a scooter, if you look closely they have pedals, but not many use them. Bob.

can they carry 2 persons?

No chance. The legal limit for non registered electric is 250W. Not enough to pull one body up a hill.

There are 2 seater electric scooters, BMW for one, but they are ££££££ and weigh a tonne because of the enormous batteries.

Thanks for the replies. Seems not a good option for me as cost looks to much already have 2 folding bikes and could fit a 125 Motorbike or Scooter in Garage at much less cost OK may be a bit more weight but I dont use my full payload.

Those look nice. But at least in the UK and probably whole EU you would need tax, insurance and maybe a bike licence.

Why bother with electric I have a Honda CG125 in the Garage and a can of petrol that will last 120+ miles, and it will carry two adults plus a whopping great rack to carry a vietnamese family as well.

Bob.

We tried on like this at Peterborough Show but found it so small that it would be difficult to control 2-up due to driver virtually having to sit on the handle bars ..... it looked good and reasonable price but for one person or two VERY slim ones.

As Bob said above, the ones sold at shows are electric bikes with plastic bits added to make them look like scooters. The pedals are removable but they can not be ridden legally on UK roads without the pedals.

We use a " Sym jet 4" 125cc. Its quick, light at 102 kilos, and very reliable. Pushes into the garage a treat. Cost around £ 1500
Love it.

Out of interest, what's the weight limit of a standard Fiamma 2 position bike rack? Would it accommodate one of those 'Honda Wave 110i' machines(at 99 kilos) instead of two heavy-ish push bikes? Or would it pull the rack from its moorings on the first bounce?

Assuming you have two people to lift it and had the available load allowance, what would be the drill if you bought one of these? Assuming also NO garage, how would you carry it? Would you also need a bike trailer?

Cannot be 100% sure but I BELIEVE they might be the ones that a firm tried to import last year but could not get type approval for.. so sadly no registration issued and no chance of being road legal.
Of course the issues may well have been addressed by now but as Brian quite rifhtly points out, they do require a licence, tax and insurance

Standard 250W motor, as used in nice light aluminium push bikes
Does not a 250w Push Bike need to be Taxed & insured Etc as per EAPCs rules?
or am I wrong?
GOV.UK
EAPC requirements
The requirements are:
the bike must have pedals that can be used to propel it

the electric motor shouldn’t be able to propel the bike when it’s travelling more than 15mph

the bike (including its battery but not the rider) must not be heavier than 40 kilograms (kg) if it’s a bicycle, or 60kg if it’s a tandem or tricycle

the motor shouldn’t have a maximum power output of more than 200 watts if it’s a bicycle and 250 watts if it’s a tandem or tricycle

the bike must have a plate showing the manufacturer, the nominal voltage of the battery, and the motor’s power output.

Yes, but who is going to be stopped by a policeman who has the equipement ( or can even be bothered ! ) to check what the output power of a motor is ?
The difference is, where as the electric push bikes LOOK like what they are, the very posh scooters look like what they are too !!
