We're newbies
We have taken the plunge and early retirement...we have, on order, our first Motorhome which should be ready in March. We are wanting to cycle around England in the first year and are thinking it would make our lives a lot easier if we have the assistance of electric bikes but are concerned re their charging if we are not on an electric hook-up site.
Does anyone out there have these and have any advise on how to charge without electric hook- up, we obviously have the choice of a generator but any other ideas?

We have two AS electric bikes and use an inverter BUT, in the UK unless it is sunny it could take some time to replace the energy unless you are touring. I bought a 'modified' sine wave inverter that works for me (other than actually blowing up my electric tooth brush). If you can afford to buy a Pure Sine Wave Inverter, they are far superior. Mine is an 800w unit and I can charge both batteries at the same time.
In Spain during the summer months, there is more than enough sun.

Getting Better
As above but we also have 300 watts of solar to put that charge back in the batteries if static and not moving much,,,

A Pure Sine Wave inverter is able to produce mains power from your leisure battery (s). The power used has to be replaced either by driving, solar panel or Hook-up.
A Pure Sine wave inverter shapes the power more effectively than the cheaper versions of inverters and are proportionately a lot more expensive.

11yrs, but many years a tugger.
The two different wave forms look a bit like this. The pure one more closely resembles what you get at home.

The alternative to pure sine wave (PSW) is a modified sine wave inverter. A modified sine wave produces an approximation of what mains electricity is. Some are closer than others and can work most things but there are electronic devices that won't work or could even be damaged by them. You'll need an inverter that can produce more power (Watts) than the requirement of whatever you want to run at the same time and getting a PSW (which will cost more) will assure you of success. I don't think you'd need a big one for charging an e-bike (or two).

I have a 1000 watt one it can charge both bikes but you need to plug one in and let it settle for a min or two before plugging the second one in or the startup current will trip it out.

This is the inverter I fitted, not a recognised brand but it has coped well with everything I have thrown at it and you can use a remote on/off switch with this one.
The inverter is tucked away so I have wired it to a 240 volt 3 pin socket with a flap cover to denote that it powered by the inverter in a easily accessible position.
