Has any Elddis owners replace the extremely poor grey waste tap on the Elddis Motorhome.

I have just purchased my first MH and having spent the weekend away in it want to improve on the Grey waste drainage tap. The tap that is fitted as new is worse that you get on a water butt you have in your garden, took absolutely ages for it to drain.

The inside diameter of the hose is around 26mm

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Lot of them on eBay, but don’t know if they will be any better than you’ve got.

Yes looked at them and even bought a couple, but no good.

I'll take my fitting to Wickes tomorrow and try out some pipe and fittings.
What I need is a fitting to go inside the end of the waste pipe and a gate valve or similar to fit on the end of that.

Just thought someone may have had the same issue, I could then shortcut the detective work.

Maybe you could access the waste tank and cut a larger hole and fit a new tank connector, you could then use whatever size pipe you like.

34mm, it's one of the corrugated flexi pipes.

Think I may have to pop to Wickes in the morning

Tony, you may be able to utilise 32mm push-fit hard pipe for your waste set-up without any major mods. I fitted the 40mm pipe to my van and it works well but 32mm should be able to sustain a good flow rate.(y)

Thank you, I'll check that out.

I think it cost me less than 14 quid for everything and that included the 3m-length of 40mm pipe.

Good luck Tony and tell us all how it went(y)

The problem with corrugated pipe is that the fittings/taps fit inside the pipe, reducing the bore. Then add a moving valve that then again reduces the bore, so it’s no surprise they have a poor flow rate.

It's not the bore of the pipe that restricts the flow but the size of the tap bore. Reduces from 25mm to 13mm and because there is really no gravity to help the flow it just trickles out.

Yes that’s what I’m saying. Where as solid pipe fitting go on the outside of the pipe so the bore inside the tap can be bigger.

Do you think you could squeeze 28mm inside?

Then you could go for a full bore 28mm lever valve that will have an internal diameter of about 25mm.

Thanks guys for all your suggestions.

I have made a small modification using a 22mm gate valve and a 3/4" to 22mm straight connector and a bit of plastic 22mm pipe.

It's not ideal and I do like the lever valve idea. I managed to use the original fittings apart from the tap. The important bit for me was that it didn't protrude outside the bodywork.

Think I'll eventually replace the gate valve with a lever valve, but no great rush now.

If you are still looking for a lever these are excellent:

You need one bigger than the nominal pipe diameter because the hole through the ball is smaller (than the nominal pipe size).

I see the same seller sells 12v electric ones too. You could dump it without getting out of the van (y)

Right this is the final finished job (famous last words)

You have to wonder though how an Elddis designer thinks it would be a good idea to fit a 13mm (actual bore) plastic tap to a grey waste outlet.

It make you wonder if they have ever stood by a drain and waited for the waste water to empty. It took over 10min to empty 30-40 litres and that had no food stuff in the tank (it's new so I know what went down sink) if it had food particles I would imagine the outlet would easily get jammed up.
The waste pipe to the tap is 22mm so why didn't they fit a 22mm tap?

Think I'll ask them and see what excuse they give.

Hi,
I release this is an old post, but I have the same issue on my Elddis Accordo 105. Could you please tell me what diameter ball valve you eventually bought for this job ?

Many Thanks

Here's how I improved the our grey waste dumping problem on our Elddis.

Dumping our grey water has been a source of embarrassment on more then one occasion with other motorhomes queuing up, drumming their fingers waiting for the paltry flow from our grey waste to finish.
Spurred on by seeing what Tinker2 had done to speed up the exiting of his grey water, I have today removed forever the shame and embarrassment of slow flow.

I purchased from CAK Tanks a 28mm grey waste drain tap and a 28mm to 25mm pipe reducer.

The tap - https://leisurelines.net/28mm-grey-waste-water-drain-tap-valve-4303-p.asp and the reducer - https://leisurelines.net/28mm-grey-waste-push-fit-male-pipe---25mm-hose-adaptor-j-433-p.asp

A simple job on our Elddis Autoquest 175. Remover the offending original grey waste drain tap, remover the rubber grommet on the tap mounting bracket.
The new tap is a nice tight fit into the mounting bracket and I used a jubilee clip to secure it in place, reconnect the hose from the grey tank and job done.
I can now soak ever bodies shoes at 20 paces.

The old tap = 18mm inlet and 14mm outlet

New tap = 23mm inlet and 28mm outlet

I nibbles a bit out of the mounting bracket to help lock the tap outlet to the bracket.

I did the same with the tap from CAC tanks. Huge improvement, well worth it.
