Hi , We recently bought an Elddis Majestic 120, 2012 Van and on our first trip we discovered that when making up the bed (from the U shaped lounge) . The wood cover under the centre cushion (where the slats are) is higher that the slats themselves. This means that when sleeping the middle cushions slope upwards. We are wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what they did to solve it.

At the moment I think that removing the wooden cover under the center cushion will work but seems a bit mad. Is this a design fault or am I missing something basic here ?

Any assistance would be greatly received

Hmmm, don't know, we use ours as two singles, never used the centre fill in, nice to have my own snugly single bed
Plus I don't get disturbed by MRS Simbadog getting up to use the facilities

Hi, we've got an Autoquest 180 with exactly the same problem. I think it is badly designed, my wife has just started using our middle bed - not sure if you have that option - she put up with the 'hump' for quite a while but we both sleep more comfortably now.

I have a "140" and the big bed is fine ! King size ? but as Simbadog, we use it as 2 singles for the same reasons.

Wee Tip - when I can't get exactly level I have a few bits of wee bits of 1"x 2" to chock up the single bed that is trying to tip you out. Only slightly use 1", if needed use the 2" way and you roll in rather than out ! :sneaky:

Thanks everyone, we did think about the wood but thought it might make the rest of the bed uneven. Will probably give it a try. Otherwise we thought maybe remove it when we make the bed up at night. Sure there will be a solution!

Hi Woody,

I know this is a late reply to your questions but I was wondering if you had sorted you bed issue?

I had exactly the same issue in our Elddis 120 but after a little modification our bed is now very comfortable.
The fix that was suggested earlier in the thread by adding some wood slats on top of the bed slats doesn't really sort the problem, ok it can take away the slope but it still leaves a bump/bridge in the middle. My fix requires some basic/medium DIY skills and about half a days work.
I have some pictures that I took in stages of progress, i'll try and add them here.

The first & second pic shows the problem, the centre cushion sits too high due to the coffee table top being mounted above the rest of the bed height, you see this more clearly in picture 3 & 4.
You need to remove the coffee table top which will eventually need to be cut along the width & depth.
The front panel/cupboard also needs to removed and so does the curved slats guide and both of these will also need cutting.

I'm not going to quote exact measurements for anything due to the fact that nearly all motorhomes (even the exact same model) will have screws/fixings and other parts in slightly different places as the manufacturers do tend to just put things were they land so to speak.

The top of the cupboard panel MIGHT need a slice taking off to allow the curved slats guide to sit lower, I had to do this to mine but you might get away with not doing this part.
The curved slat guide also needed a small slice taking off.

The round rests/bungs/stays that support the pull out bed panel will need to be repositioned further forward but do that after you have cut the pull out bed panel so that you know where to reposition them, be careful to reposition them at the exact height so that when everything is back in place the whole new table top sits flush.

The bed pull out panel has rounded corners which if left as they are will not give a neat finish when the two coffee top panels are pushed together so it's best to cut along this in order to square it off.

Next you need to remove the two slat guide rails. I cut the ends to form a slope so that when the bed slats are pulled out from their new height (due to cutting and lowering the cupboard panel) the slats should glide into position correctly. PLEASE NOTE; the type of plastic used for these guide rails is very brittle and can snap easy, do not try and bend the slope in without heating it first. I used a very gentle flame from a gas blow torch but you could use boiling water.

Unable to attach any more pics within this message so I'll continue in the next message.....

Continued....
Next the coffee table top needs to be cut along the width and depth. The idea here is to make the bed pull out panel meet/butt up to the coffee top. I cut my coffee table top so that the finished edge would be seen and not the cut, the cut was put at the back against the wall, again it just made it a neater job when finished.
The original supports fixed under the coffee table top will need to be extended or even better remove them and make slightly bigger supports for each side, this will give more strength when fixed back.
Now the coffee table top should fit between the side walls of the cupboard whereas before it was sitting on top of the side walls.
My bed pull out panel was much narrower than the width of the side walls, this would of been constructed like this during manufacture to ensure that the bed pull out panel was easy to pull and push without catching although it does (in my case) that they are cut very short. And due to this the panel only just reached both sides of the bungs/stays/guides. Due to this I did two things, the first was to remove the bungs from further down the rails (where it would lock-out the bed pull panel once fully pulled out) and double up on the existing but re-positioned bungs.
The next thing I did was to add a small slice of wood to the side of the bed pull out panel to make it fit better and also to give a better finished look.

When fitting the coffee table top between the walls of the cupboard, drill through the sides from inside the under seat storage area and use long strong screws and plenty of them in order to give max strength. In the picture showing this you can see my pencil marks that are there to show me where the screws are in the supports so that I don't drill into them.

Okay you now have a join running along the coffee table but it is hardly noticeable and I would rather have a comfortable bed of which I can tell you, it now is!
Some pics of the finished job.....

I hope that this helps someone!!!

Sorry forgot to add the pictures of the guide rails with the slope. After the trial run with these sloped guide rails I ended up taking out just a little of the slope so that it wasn't as sharp and also added a packing/spacer under the curved slat guide so that the sloped end and the curved slat guide met with a smoother slope. Yes maybe I cut a little too much off the front cupboard panel, we all learn and no harm done.

Happy holidays to all!

Thanks Rob!

We don't have the luxury of an alternative bed choice so the job had to be done and I am so glad I did the modification as the bed is now perfectly flat all over.

Another good reason to consider doing this modification is that you don't have to buy anything to do the job (except some screws and maybe one small piece of wood to add a slat) but I have these things in anyhow.

If you do decide to do the mod and have any questions then please just ask, And let me know how you get on.

Thanks again!

Best wishes!
Rob. (yes I am a Rob also).
