newbie learning fast and sometimes the hard way
I did promise as a newbie some pretty simple questions.
Planning my first proper trip to a site and just wondering is the cost of the electric used when hooked up is included in the site cost or not. The same with water fill ups and waste disposal..

Thanks as always for your responses

Simple answer is that all water and waste is included in most of not all sites. EHU is different in many sites as some charge you for what you have used at the end of stay, some will be pre-paid and top up if required or refund, but the majority are included in the price. There are of course the campsite fee inc EHU or EHU is an additional cost but fixed at circa £5:00.

All the sites I have stayed on include all electric used (if pitch comes with EHU). The only time this has been different was in Germany where we had a meter to our pitch which was read, and then us charged accordingly upon leaving.
Aires are different

Usually ehu cost is include, been to a couple of sites that charge, one was with prepayment card-very expensive electric how they had it set and another that read meter and you payed a deposit and then when leaving meter read again and balance returned.
Trouble with most sites adding EHU into price is that it’s not good if you don’t need electric.

Probably not top of your priorities list, but some sites in Spain have a meter on each pitch. They charge a reasonable amount per kilowatt-hour. Payable at the end of stay, or every week if staying longer. With an ACSI card, some will allow you 4 kWh per day free, so worth getting one.

Water is always free, waste is free (if you can use the facilities; in the UK sometimes we can't as the outlet is in the centre of the van and the drain is at the side of the pitch and so far we haven't been to a site that charged for electricity used seperately. However, make sure you find out what sort of power is available. Some sites (especially across the Channel) only have 6A which means approx 1.3Kw - not enough to run the boiler and the wife's hairdryer!. If you're not sure and don't want to risk blowing the fuse late at night then you can buy a meter quite cheaply to check what your various devices use.

Amazon product ASIN B07FZZ17ZY
If you switch on one device at a time and make a list of the consumptions then when you're away you can work out which combinations can be used safely. Of course you'll also need a 13A to 16A adapter to make it work. If you're not too far from Glastonbury I'll gladly bring mine round one afternoon to save you buying one. Drop me a line...
