I normally carry 2 EHU leads, as especially on rural sites, in France the post can be a long way from the pitch, but I have not needed the second lead for any pitch in England, is it OK to leave it at home until we go back to Europe?

I never take more than our one 25m cable in europe. If it's not long enough, tough, we don't get ehu. 😱

I have 3. A 5, 10 and 20mtrs. The short one for fully serviced sites and the others to make up to distant bollards. only once caught out in Spain when the electric point was about 50 mtrs away.

I always take a spare, it’s still brand new tbh but it’s there for “if”

both 15mtr and 2.5mm

I have thought about making up a 10 mtr one but sod’s law if I did i’d l need an 11mtr one lol

The hard standing on my mates CS was an afterthought, if you want to go on the hard you would need both cables. That said, he does have some cables that he will let people use if theirs aren't long enough.

I carry two regardless.

I have a 25m traditional orange 2.5mm and a 14m modern arctic blue 1.5mm (16a).

I usually try to use the shorter, lighter more flexible arctic blue one, but have on several occasions needed the 25m one.

I’ve not had to join them together….yet.

I take 2 x 25m plus I have 2 x 12.5m
I keep meaning to take a 25m out as I’ve never pitched a mile away 🤣🤣

Hi. The Ex-Gasman...Electric cables X two.....
Was at a CL.. YORKSHIRE ?? Name witheld..... The walls have ears... SUPER site some years back, some way from the road gates. A VW camper arrived and parked down on the ,chap got out and started to walk up the site " Looking ". I was the only one on site,he did not say hello, even though i was sat outside with the dog. I said hello, could i help him as you booked in at the house hidden away amongst some trees. He said.
" No, i am a Sites inspector, just checking this site again, as when i have been here before, there was a Unit on here with TWO cables joined together....Thats a No..No......"
When you arrive for the first time, the owners will walk you around to the gently sloping site and point out the 5/6 marker posts and you choose your pitch, however,at the bottom right hand corner of the site, near the farm track is a flatish bit..... it could have ?.... been suggested that if you are Old/Infirm/cannot reverse, there are,in a Stone built shelter at the top of the site are........... EXTRA .....leccy Cables to use if neede..PUT THEM BACK WHEN DONE.only proviso.
So there you have it. I have used two cables put together there, getting level, when at the top of the site with a twin axle and the 25 mt.?thingy was about 110 cm. ( YOU started it with your " EU " Mtr :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:;);) ) To short.
Common sense MUST prevail, get the connections up off the ground and out of reach of dogs and people . I have seen a connection wrapped in a shopping bag and taped up solid.

I have only needed 2, 3 times in over 10 years ( 2ce borrowed cable) but used ehu less than 10 times in ten years, so probably not the person to listen to.

We have two 25m and one 10m which has two sockets on the van end to daisy chain the French neighbour who hasn't got long enough leads! That's often earned brownie points.
I also carry a three way 16A splitter. I know it's a NoNo in the UK but with luck we will be holidaying in Europe again next year where such practices are quite normal.

I believe on UK sites the Post can't be more than 25mtrs from the pitch.
Maybe CLs and CSs don't follow this 'rule'
We have found cl/cs sites are more easy going. Which means you can move further one way or they might ask if you could move one way to save the grass and give it a rest.

You can get multi-multi-multi-daisy-chaining in France with several MHs sharing one EHU socket. Mon dieu - le plastic bag over the joints when it rains. Everyone lived happily ever after. :france:

I We carry one 25m 16amp lead in UK. Plus in Europe 50m 10 amp “Langeac lead” (so called because to get electric to pitch on bank of the Allier at the Langeac site the nearest post was 40+ metres away!) Only had to use the latter a dozen or so times in 30 years, but useful when nearest post is out of action - less common now but the old municipals in France we’re renowned for erratic supply.

If you step it up to a few thousand volts it will travel miles 🤣

Has anyone mentioned the ones who go off site for the day, unhooking their electric from the van but still in the bollard? Or those who don’t uncoil the cable from the reel? I’d have though those would have been treated as more serious than joining two cables together?

On the continent I have regularly seen campervans (mainly German) with very long standard household extension cables wound tight around the reel with only a few meter would out. Never seen one catch fire even though I known with enough current they will overheat and can catch fire. Never seen anyone stop them even on the better sites. Other than the join, not sure what the problem is with 2 cables - is a voltage drop dangerous?

If I remember, I’ve a photograph of a cable that wasn’t unwound from the reel and I’ll post it on here. But I agree re joining two cables. The connection is meant to be waterproof rated so it can’t be that.
Sites don’t seem to do owt about leaving leads connected to the bollard but unplugged from the van when they’ve gone out

I only carry the one that came with my motorhome which I believe is 25 m, while it's been too long for anything Ive done here so far all I do is unwind it all the way and snake it among itself to ensure its not going to get hot, but to carry a second lead seems pointless to me. Better to have too much than too little.

but to carry a second lead seems pointless to me. Better to have too much than too little.
But surely carrying a second lead would increase your chance of having ‘too’ much and remove the risk of too little?

Carrying a second lead is simply extra weight in my eyes

I have 4: 25M ; 16M ; 9M ; 5M. I choose the shortest that will reach which is most often the 16M. However I'm on 3 month tour and my battery has decided it's about 20Ah rather than 235Ah so on the current site I've used all mine + one borrowed from a friend because I'm on a part of the site without any hook-ups. So I needed to reach the nearest EHU without leaving the group. Nearest was a long way away 🙄

I have carried two leads as a precaution since being on a site where either rabbits or squirrels chewed through my aerial cable!
