Good evening,

were going away next weekend and I've a potential EHU problem on the van.

I've a situation where the 240 input fitting is disintegrating. It's a foreign van with 'FAP' EHU 240v fitting. There;s a screw in the middle and the plastic is broken. I'd have better photographs but the Thetford gas hob burner is in the way so I guess I'll have to shift that before I do anything else.

Here's the photos in case anyone knows what I'm talking about and where to get a replacement.

Cheers.

Where is the damage ? on the outside where you plug in ?
Those photos look like the fitting from the inside, not showing the lead interface

Is this the type you need this company have several different types?

Never seen one like that before, I just had a search on eBay Italy no luck.
You could replace it with a standard inlet and fit a seperate RCD, that is the normal arrangement.

Reading the blurb, it seems to be marketed as a simple means of supplying juice with RCD protection for MH self-converters. Fitting a standard socket and a separate RCD might be a much cheaper option, with not too much more effort.

It's not an RCD, it's not an MCB. It's an RCBO which combines the functions of both RCD and MCB.

Overcurrent protection (like an MCB) is 16A, Leakage shock protection (like an RCD) is 30mA.

Every day's a schoolday!🙂

Thank you so much everyone, yes the problem is inside the van at the back of the connector.

Yes it is the one, good job Pete5996 - I expect that it includes everything so it should be a simple exchange.

Looks pricey though !

They only deliver to France. I can't find it anywhere else. I've looked everywhere.

That's a blow. If you're settled on replacing that, rather than an alternative solution, I'd be happy for you to have the order sent to me and I'd post it on to you, if that helps? An up to 2kg parcel from here to UK/Spain (not sure where you are!) shows as €17.55 postage (postage has become expensive everywhere now...:()

That's a really kind offer. If all else fails I might take you up on that.

I'm now looking for an easy solution perhaps similar to what I've got that doesn't involve drilling holes in the walls of the van perhaps with a built in RCBO

OK I am settled on replacing the entire unit. Pete5996 how do I contact you ?

Is there a PM factility ?

Thanks

Pete5996 should do it. Start a conversation by clicking on envelope at top of page.

Well I bit the bullet and after registering it let me choose the delivery address in Spain. :giggle:
That's the worse bit done. Thanks for your help !

Well done, Graham - I'll leave it with you - any problems I'll still be about (y)

Well thought that getting this part was going to be the hardest part of the job but I was wrong. Getting the old one out was hard going. Job now done so I'm chuffed with myself. I can see why the Italians at McLouis chose this fitting. It's in a small, cramped area underneath the Thetford 3-way burner so a simple 16A single circuit with breaker and RCD combined makes everything neater and more compact.

Included some photos

The new unit thumbnail_IMG_20200804_110045.jpg

The old one removed, disintegrated on it's way out through the hole in the wall thumbnail_IMG_20200804_152059.jpg

The job completed

I used this adhesive. I hope I've not messed up here. I was going to use the regular Sikaflex one uses for window openings but I wanted something that would have more strength. Hopefully not too much

Thanks for all your help.
