Has anyone else noticed what ever eggs bought recently are really hard to peel? I am actually trying Burfords, own brands etc and they either take half the boiled white away or just sever the egg in half!

I run then in cold water, they are all fresh I think. But it’s only recently happened and I am genuinely confused 😵‍💫

I add vinegar to the water when boiling eggs as it make them easier to peel. The vinegar's acidity helps soften the eggshell, and it can also help the egg whites coagulate faster if the shell cracks during cooking.

Assume you are now on top of your customer service issues now then…….
My Tesco eggs btw are good peelers 😉
Good luck🤞

This could be worth trying!

I knew I shouldn’t have asked for eggspert advice on here. I am genuinely asking for help and don’t need everyone cracking yolks!
My brain was fried and after this it’s just become scrambled.

Put a boiled egg in a glass tumbler with a splash of water, place your hand over the top and give the whole thing a good shaking, the shell shatters into small pieces and leaves the egg nicely peeled.

And older eggs peel more easily than really fresh ones. ☺️

Freshly laid eggs are areal b...r to peal. Better when 2 or 3 days old.
Just what I was going to say.

Best to leave the eggs for three or four days before boiling to allow the white to shrink away from the membrane a little.

For 'safety' reasons I'd use plastic tub, a tall 'tumbler' shaped one with a screw on lid, that way when giving it a good shake and you happen to let it go due to having wet hands it won't shatter when it hits something ... second 'safety' suggestion ... do it in the middle of the lawn well away from 'breakable' things so it can's smash anything around you either ... this has the added benefit of the third 'safety' reason ... you won't get battered by your t'other 'alf for smashing something in the kitchen! 😄

If you're hungry enough you'll get the shell off.
Not an eggspert exactly but my wife and I get through 30 or so a week.

After boiling
Simply run under a cold tap then after a minute empty water out then shake pan in a circular movement for about 10 seconds /until shells are smashed then remove smashed shells👍 like others have said older eggs are better for boiling .

It's a bit like a waste disposal unit

You don't actually "need" one but your life isn't quite "complete" without one

A couple of methods, see YouTube for finer detail…

In a Tupperware with some water and shake.

Crack and peel top and bottom about 1cm and then blow the shell off!

I find cracking after cooking during the cold water cool down makes them easier to peel.

Depending what you are doing with them you can skip the peeling all together, eg if you are smashing lots of eggs up for egg mayo then just over poach them rather than boiling them. Same result, no peeling.

Buy eggs that are close to their best before date, they will be a few weeks old and easier to peel. I will stick with our local free range ones without a date and put up with them being fresh, it makes them easier to poach because the whites hold together properly.
