Eggs and Skiing! (1 Viewer)

We like our boiled eggs with a runny yoke, just starting to harden around the edges.

Water boils at approx 92 degrees C at an altitude of 2300m above sea level.
We have dippy eggs planned for breakfast one morning at Val Thorens during the forthcoming MHF ski meet!

Does anyone know how long we should boil them for at 2300m altitude to attain the correct results?

Or should we give up and have a FB pie for breakfast instead?!

At that altitude I calculate about 3/4 of an hour just to be on the safe side, then take your teeth out and gum it to death.......to avoid chipped teeth........:thumb:

Yes, Many times, it was very very hot in the ampitheatre you know......


p.s. Do you put any salt into the water you boil your eggs in, as this will also affect the boiling temp.
Sea (salt) water (1.025) boils at 103.7 deg C so better factor that in as well ....

My physics teacher told us that was why they were so keen to get back from climbing Everest (in 1953 I mean) - was cos they couldn't get a decent cup of tea, he said.

Although knowing this was utter bollards, even when I was 11, this actually has enabled me to remember for 50 years so far, that water boils at a lower temperature the higher you go!

mmmm, that could mean, we could offset the altitude by adding loads of salt to the water, thus adjusting the cooking time to be closer to that required at sea level!

Also, an added bonus is that we could then sling the hot salty water down the sink and it will give the slide valve on the grey tank a good defrost!:thumb:

Buy a plastic egg thingy from either pound shop or Lakeland--it looks like a red half an egg that has markings on to tell soft med or hard --nether fails :thumb:You can use in cold or boiling water so long as the eggs and timmer thing are put in at same time = perfect eggs:thumb:
BELOW one off ebay best £1.40 you will spend for a perfect egg :thumb::thumb::thumb:

Nah, you're missing the best way Jon, you just blu tack it to your skis and then go so fast that the heat caused by the friction with ski and snow cook it perfectly!

Thanks for the update--Glad you managed to get perfect eggs :thumb: They work even if you put them in cold water and bring to boil or straight into boiling water
I picked two up on Tuesday from Tickerty boos at Cleethorpes for £1 each after a day out with grandson :thumb: already given one away to some other poor egg-bound sole

not recommended because if you fall over while you are sking your eggs will break or maybe not if they are frozen
