Several years now
Has anyone been to the Fringe festival ? We will be in the MH in that area when it is on with our grandson. Now at 5 he is unlikely to be interested in any of the shows, unless there are some specifically aimed at kids ? But I was wondering if there will be loads of street entertainers kicking around to keep him entertained ?

In the past there has been "Fringe for Kids" or similar. I am not sure if this is for this year or not but will give you some ideas:

I'll pm you

Loads of street performers on the High Street and kids get involved.
However, I'll be surprised if it gets the go ahead this year. Most of the acts at the Tattoo and events come from countries in the Red list

Internet says it is happening.

Shows are registering now (registration opened 5 May).

From the website:

"The Virgin Money Fringe Street Events are family-friendly and a great way of introducing kids to the festival and live performance. Many of the acts are specifically geared towards children and while there might be a few cheeky moments, all shows should be generally suitable for children.

The Street Events are a busy place and care should be taken to ensure children do not get separated from their parents or guardians. We have procedures in place to deal with lost children and work closely with the police and security on site, so please tell a member of staff straight away if you can’t find your child.

We would recommend making sure that your child has a phone number or other contact details with them at all times, especially if English is not their first language."

kevenhs went to Edinburgh pre-COVID for the tattoo.
That happens the same time as the comedy festival, fringe festival, book festival etc.
And there was lots of street vendors.
For the comedy & fringe, the main shows will have people doing mini performances in the street.
Plus usual street acts. Mime, etc.

This is mostly all on the Main Street so you can find quieter areas of Edinburgh to explore.

I think there’ll be a post-pandemic hit on the levels of activities but 🤞not to un-fun levels

The Fringe is expecting to proceed, but the Chief Executive has said that, at this stage, she can promise no more than cautious optimisim, because the COVID pandemic can cause changes very quickly. That said, she's as confident as anyone can be that the Fringe will happen, but with social distancing et seq, so quite different from the traditional offering. Her update is in the Link below.

Getting somewhere close to stay could be a bigger challenge
I've just booked tickets for an August concert but we are close enough to travel from home
Normally I would use the train but will decide nearer the time

Should be loads of street entertainers to watch, if you want to get into any of he shows you're probably to late as the popular ones fill up in no time. Make sure you take the kids to the National Museum of Scotland the kids will enjoy that and it's free :)
