I am going to be off line for a few days.

My Mum is off to hospital with irregular heart beat and weak pulse. I have no idea what is happening to Dad (he has complex dementia but Mum is his carer) at the moment.

Just waiting for Martin to get home and then will grab my emergency bag and drive down. Martin will pack the van and follow.

I am going to be off line for a few days.

And I'm home again.

Mum has a severe inner ear infection which is bad enough but far better news than the suspected stroke. She had some IV antibiotics in hospital and more to take (tablets) now she is home.

We are so glad we have the van and people who have a CL near my parents who have been wonderfully kind to us. We'd left there last Monday after doing the New Year family visits, home two nights (one day, didn't even get the laundry done) and then we were back at the farm on Wednesday night

i hope that your Mum continues to improve, now that she is on antibiotics. Could you please add my friend Paul, aka Fatnav, he is a member of Fun. I have double checked, because he didn't come up on a search, but he is paid up. He probably wont be able to join us until Saturday.

I wonder if you could advise me. We want to do the 500, as part of the trip. Our dilemma is whether to do Edinburgh at the beginning or the end! I know midges can be a big issue, and i tend to get bitten by everything. I wont be back from Spain/Portugal until the end of April or beginning of May, so that is a factor. If we set off after the meet, there are no time pressures, and hopefully it will be warmer, but on the other hand, the weather in May can be really good, i understand, and it is likely to be quieter.

I would be grateful for any recommendations or suggestions from others. I am reading previous threads on the NC500 for inspiration. I definitely think i should go anti clockwise.

Really looking forward to the rally. I am sorry for hijacking the thread.

MaidinDevon I have not done the NC500 as such but am sure others could help.

I also get bitten by everything - the worst places I have found were around the Strontian area and the Grantown-on-Spey area. I much prefer to get out to The Western Isles or Orkney. Shetland is still on my wish list. Citronella and Bog Myrtle are said to discourage midge. I used to make soap with essential oils and started using them everytime I showered / washed (daily shower plus every time I washed face and hands) from about two weeks before going a midge area. I know commercial soaps are available with these oils........ it's a long time since I made soap, perhaps I should do a few batches! You can also get candles that are said to be bug repellent.

Why not book this then tour Scotland for a few weeks before joining in on other meets. Its an easy bus ride into its centre and good eateries nearby

I have booked the rally field at Drum Estate, Danderhall - just outside Edinburgh for a second year.

It will be the same cost, (£40 for advance bookings and payment, £50 for people who sign up / pay late) as last year - assuming we have 30 paid attendees - for the 5 nights. Maximum number of units is 40, the same cost if you stay one night or all five. Any surplus will go to The Scottish Air Ambulance Charity

There is fresh water, disposal facilities and easy access to Edinburgh. No shower block or ECU although a few of us will have generators for emergency use.
