We just used the Thetford green chemical before but hated the smell of it.

We don't use any chemicles now all I do is add a washing tab occasionally which keeps the casset nice and clean inside. There are those that don't like SOGs but we have had one on on all off our vans and would not buy one without one being fitted.

Use eco washing liquid for clothes. We use the little sachets you can buy from Lidl in tubs of 20. One or two depending upon the "load" and how hot the weather is. All SOGs do is blow the smell somewhere else.

Bacteria that doesn't smell like fresh air. Bacteria that smell thrive in a closed atmosphere.

Yeah, I ONCE parked next to a Moho that had SOG. I just check I'm not down wind from them now.

That is too simplistic. Bacteria can aerobic or anaerobic. But in reality the SOG only works aerobically as long as the blade in the toilet is open. Once closed new air cannot be sucked in no matter how long the fan runs and it returns to an anaerobic atmosphere. For aerobic digestion you need more than a minute or so of fresh air.

a pipe and fan fitted to the toilet cassette to suck the smell of shit out and blow it over your neighbours

SOG is a trade name like Hoover. Thetford also make an extract fan system for their toilets that is better integrated in that the connection is automatic when you put in or take out the cassette.

Is it better by the fact that the extractor fan blows into the Moho as opposed to the neighbours?

best system in my opinion is a through the roof sog i dont think it does anything to the natural breakdown proces as its not in operation for long but it does create negative pressure in the cassette so smell doesnt waft in when the flap is open

With a properly fitted SOG, the extracted air blows through an activated charcoal filter. This removes all smells.

You are supposed to change it every year. I presume some cheapskates don't change the filter, or even remove it entirely.

In reply to the original question - I use proper blue stuff in the correct proportions and have no problems with smell from the cassette at all. I have tried so called green stuff which was less than satisfactory and even tried Lidl's cheapo washing liquid and found that to be no use. So I stick to using blue.
