We've been keeping the batteries topped up at home whilst on EHU, but the power switch has begun to 'play up'. Sometimes it switches on ok but other times not and is basically getting worse. OH sprayed some electrical spray into the switch and this did help temporarily. The thing is the unit is pop riveted. Is it ok to bypass this to open it up, thus getting a better look at the switch and whats going on?
Any advice greatly appreciated.

As long as you do the obvious and disconnect the mains (y);)

If it's out of guarantee no problems.. Once you get the switch out there may be some numbers to help identify it.
OR... Why not call Sargent / email and ask them.. May have one in stock and can sell you. They are generally very helpful.

Thanks Tonka, I'll pass that on. It definitely out of guarantee (it's 2007).

Oh ok I'll get Terry to give that a go - might save a lot of hassle. As it hasn't really been used that much he thinks there's probably some corrosion going on. He'll be back lunchtime and hopefully have a look - the batteries are both really low. Thanks for the tip.

If you manage to take out the switch, you could take it along to Maplin and ask them for one that's the same. Something like this.

"SLIMLINE" So to small compared to original.. They may however have the same size version.

THATS..... If they are still in business after reading the news.. :(

He didn't manage to get home till after dark so will have to look tomorrow. I hope it's as easy and cheap as it looks. Will let you know the outcome. :)
