We are thinking of installing a KS Energy KS-SB200B to replace 2 Varta LA95 AGM, nothing wrong with the battery but want to be able to do more off grid without worrying as theses are coming up for 3 years old. Dont want to put a B2B in for now, want to see how it goes first as they are supposed to be drop in under drivers seat. Not sure if terminal are same type till I get them out. Anyway the van has EBL102 bit thete is no setting for Lithium charging only what looks like AGM or Lead Acid, the votroni

c solar wired into it does so what would you recommend for the charging profile please when we do hook up. Will then see what charging I get with the alternator and onboard charger.

You may well break the alternator.

The EBL will be fine on the gel setting and the Victron just needs a temp sensor to charge the lithium.

Problem is the internal resistance of a lithium battery is very low and it will suck up whatever the alternator can produce. At tickover this can make the alternator overheat and burn out.

Most LiFePO4 are ok on the Gel setting. You appear to have Gel or AGM on your EBL. You battery specifies max charge of 14.6V and 14.4V recommended, I think your EBL gives 14.3V which is close enough.

I watched the videos below which seem to say that alternator charging is fine.

Take a look at this one.

Alternators aren’t cheap if you are wrong.

Interesting however no BMS and in a workshop not a moving vehicle so no airflow to cool etc. Also seemed to be plugging the new DC 2 DC charger 🤔 Not saying you are wrong however several funsters have dropped lithium in without issues so I will give it a go, see if batteries charge OK as most will be done via solar and just topping up when driving and then rpm will be 2000 or more not just idling.

If you want to use a proper lithium mains charger, you can connect it into the EBL through the 2-way socket (in pic 3) labelled LAS. To disable the internal mains charger, simply pull the fuse labelled 'Internes Lademodul' - the left-most one in pic 2.

Since having lithium’s professionally fitted both step curcuits have blown plus hook up to the fridge on the ebl has blown so now new ebl plus surge controllor plus 2 curcuit boards costing £1500 plus fitting,, was it worth for a bit extra telly time ,, maybe not but hay ho.

Ouch, painful on the wallet.

Has an explanation been given for the failures? There may be something for the rest of us to keep in mind.

Yes whilst on hook up the extra power the lithium’s are sucking up puts the whole system on over time and stress. So Shaudt who make the EBLs say they should be retuned to cope with the extra pressure plus override protection to cope with any dodgy electrical hook ups.
Fingers crossed.

I have a B2B which does the heavy charging while driving, the mains charger only has to cover the normal domestic load to keep the battery topped up when on hook up. I also have only one 100Ah battery which might suck less power than your set up.

Great l have b2b and all that and on hook up really you'd only use steps and fridge at home, decided not to leave on hook up at home and turn off fridge, sensible l suppose so hopefully no more costs.
