Have had the D2 in previous vans which have been A class and over 6.5 metres long. I also had gas blown air heating installed but never used the gas. The Eberspacher coped even in the coldest weather. The advantage of the diesel heater is you can use it whilst on the move so when you do stop the habitation area is warm.
I have the duel top diesel heater in the panel van which heats water as well as blow heating, the blow heating does not seem to get as hot with the duel top as the D2 did, but I think it will be fine.

We have a Webasto - the equivalent - in our 9m van in addition to our Alde system. We use the Webasto for instant heat and it is brilliant

The main advantage of the diesel heater over gas is that diesel is available everywhere and saves the trouble of different bottles and regulators for different countries. When I was looking for a panel van conversion one of the main requirements was a diesel heater, the reason for this being that I would not have the space for large bottles of gas. The only things I now have on gas is the three way fridge freezer and the cooker when off site camping.
