This is really annoying as you can hear the pump ticking at night when the heating is on . Anyone got a solution before I fork out thousands at a dealer to sort it out?

got the eberspacher hydronic heater on my van and can hear the same noise you describe (ie a tick or knocking)
when it starts up but not while its running as I think the noise of the burner and internal heating fan drown out the pump noise once it fires up. that is the noise the diesel feed pump makes.. surprised you can hear it once the heater fires.

Its probably the noise of the electric pump .

Same sound on ours think its just the way they are did see a post a while ago saying they put some sound insulation in to deaden the noise but not sure where.

Earplugs............................with added benefit of filtering out any snoring in the vicinity !!

Having said that, once we're under the covers on the bed, the last thing we'd want is any more heat in the van.

It's the dosing pump which should be mounted in a rubber bracket but even so it is audible all the time.

if it is the later hydronic heater the pump is incorporated in the heater unit. the only solution to prevent the knocking noise would maybe be rubber/flexible mounts on the heater mounting. think the earlier units had an external pump which you might be able to insulate.
