when I last turned on my EBERSPACHER Heater it worked for about 5 mins then smoke filled the motorhome fom all the vents.

I turned it back on but it did not work any moor.

I think I have found the fuse for it in the battery box the fuse had blown so I replaced it but it just went again.

I am going to have a look tomorrow if the rain has gone as it's under the van in a box.

The control for the heater still lights up but that's all.

Anyone have an idea what's wrong with it

Just an educated guess, but I would say your air circulation fan motor has burned out.
Possibly due a blockage or just a seized bearing?

Since 2009 with motorhomes several caravans then tents before that.
With the Webasto you get an error code . A light flashes in a sequence then a booklet you get with the van tells you what's wrong. I don't know if erberspacher the same ?

This site looks useful.

Having said that, smoke coming from the vents doesn't sound good. Maybe fan motor burnt out?

Not long enough, but a little common sense helps..........
Not sure this will help you as this is from my Webasto setup.

You need to do some flashes counting.
Extract from the manual is below.
The five is just a warning.
The number of rapids indicates the fault.

Most are remedied by turning the thing off for 5 minutes and trying again. Especially if it has not been used for some time.

"Self-Diagnostic System" (Reading Flash Codes)
A flash code will be generated on the indicator light of the control element. These flash codes indicate a
malfunction and subsequent operational interruption. There are up to ten codes available depending on
the nature of the malfunction and the heater model (see Table 2).
In order to make a correct analysis, it is necessary to understand the flash code event. The flash code
pertains to the control element (switch) only. The flash code is only visible during the after-run (cooldown)
period of operation (an optional timer will hold the last code in memory until corrected, see “F”
codes in parentheses on Table 2).

During the flash code event, you will see five quick flashes followed by a slower sequence of flashes from
one flash up to ten flashes. The slower sequence of flashes is the actual malfunction code. The five quick
flashes are only an indication that a malfunction has been detected and that the code will be displayed.
Count only the slower sequence of flashes to obtain the current malfunction code.
For example ( = one flash):
Event code 4X (F 04): ... ... ... ...
The fast/slow sequence will be repeated until the heater completes the after-run (cool-down) cycle after
which, the code will be stored in the control unit memory.

wright I have taken it out from under the motorhome.
That's a job on its own.

I have tested the fan by putting power to it and that's ok.

I'm now thinking it could be a faulty censer but would that blow a 20 amp fuse.

my be a heater plug.

My word thats lucky it did not start a big fire. Before doing anything email the makers and explain you are looking at taken legal action as it was a near disaster. They may tell you to "take a hike" or they may give you a replacement and ask for that one back for tests etc..... If you don't ask you will never know.

Knowing the cost of parts for these things, a new heater might be a smarter move.
At least everything will be new.
A faulty motor could have caused the transistor to overheat which caused the fire.
Changing just the ECU might just result in another burnt out ECU.

There is always the "cop out" and they know that. I would fully agree with JohnandShell and get a new one as that way you have fully warranty. I cannot comment on the EBERSPACHER heater, but the Webasto we have fitted is very good. It does not heat the water as well, however we have the gas to do that so not worried.

Good luck whatever route you go down.

I agree but I have a few months before it gets really cold I will have a look around and see if I can get one second hand.

in the mean time I will se if there is another way that is better to heat the motorhome.

Thanks for the advice.

Rob, a little 800watts mains heater will work if you're going to be on EHU until you get sorted.

I don't think there is IMO. We have been very pleased with ours and would definitely have another just for the convenience of not having to think about the gas consumption.
