Been a long time but i have had this in the past..
They usually put like 2p or a small amount and you then confirm the amount received.
ebay no longer own paypal so i guess this is their new way.

Just done it as I've sold some bits this last month. 7p and 2p paid into my account which, as tonka said, you confirm and they debit a few days later.

Edit: All these online finance companies have various means of confirming the account now, PayPal, Western Union etc. which I've used in the past.
