This is my first ever Funsters post. Whit woo!
Someone on one of the Facebook groups was talking about usb’s And how to easily add them. Our man that can, fellow Funster, Mark from CLS, has already fitted us a couple of usb points, but in this ever increasing technological age we wanted more... You can now get such a variety of USB electricals, including fans- we wanted these. They are reading lights with 2 USB points on each lamp. I’m thinking of hanging fans from overhead cupboard handles above the bed, in the glorious European heat...anyway here are the links. They are from Bailey’s of Bristol. £28.99 each. Hope this of help to someone...

Hi
Very interesting lights, the USB's are the winner. Hard to find much info on them but they appear to be 12v. Does anyone know if that is right?
Regards

I have not used these exact same ones but I have fitted USBs and they are 12v. It is important to get the polarity right and remember to put an inline fuse in, or take power from a fused supply

The difficulty is going to be finding those lights as I've searched the web and can't find anywhere selling them now (ie with stock).

They look very similar to the LED lights we had in our last Swift Elegance Caravan, which were dimmable by twisting the knurled end part, I wonder if those Bailey ones as illustrated are also dimmable?, I would have thought so as they would be very bright if not, perhaps someone can confirm if they have manged to source them.
The USB port is a great idea, these should prove very successful.
If anyone finds a provider please pass it on
Thanks
Les

Welcome, I was in Tamworth this week myself.

Completely unrelated but as a small boy we lived in 99 Tinkers Green Road, Wilnecote, never had such a great address since.

Most of these devices designed for vehicles are 12volt (unless they state they are specifically for a 24v truck) internally there is a regulator for 5volts which is used for the USB voltage and sometimes for the LED.
There are a lot of 12volt USB sockets available on the likes of eBay which are simple to fit generally only needing one hole and bulkhead mounted. I've not seen these lamps before with intergrated USB. No doubt some importer will latch on and soon they will be more freely available and cheaper

There are various easy to fit USB sockets on Ebay, just supply them with 12/24 volt. (Remember to fuse the line)
Twin Socket
Over or Under Dash Mount
Quad Panel

Here and Here is a lovely little twin voltmeter which is great for monitoring the voltage on the Hab battery and the vehicle battery simultaneously (you may want to put a switch in line if you don't want it on all the time and I don't know what it's quiescent current is).

I always take an opposing view, why would you want a long hanging USB charger lead.

You want a charger point near a safe table to sit your valuable device on.

Cheaper than chips on ebay.

Welcome to the world of fun.
Just a word of warning. Don't buy the cheap ones. They're not necessarily fitted with internal suppression (They're cheaper to make without) they can cause interference to radio signals, and in some cases block them completely. I'd fitted one and couldn't understand why when in Spain I couldn't tune a portable radio into a channel that previously was strong. If I moved the radio away from the van reception was good. By chance I disconnected it and even the radio in the dashboard was being affected.
I've slung the offending part and replaced it with a better quality one. Radio signals are all good now.
