Can anyone tell me please whether or not the Easy-Lifter Hydra Trail attaches on to a standard 'tow-ball', or will I need to fit an alternative on to the tow-bar?

We did too, when we had ours. Much simpler in use.Yes, you remove the ball fitting and fit a bracket supplied with the hydra.
Two bolts to fit it the same as the ball fitting.
edit I normally assemble mine and leave set up with the wheels and use a ramp to load the bike.
So I don’t use the bottle jack

We’ve got a lot of work to do on the house so I don’t think Pen would be overly impressed if I bought a bike
As and when I do get something it will probably be a trail bike around 250cc.
