Rally Easter 2026 at Woodside fields

I believe a northern term when each guest brings a contribution for a sharing table of food.
So who was Jacob?

I had never heard the name until 10 years ago and thought it was, possibly, American? šŸ¤”

Asked my new Best Friend, GPChat. This is a brief summary of the response:

A Jacob’s Table is a community meal or food-sharing tradition, most often found in Christian churches or charities, where food is shared freely among everyone present—especially welcoming people who may be poor, lonely, or in need. The name comes from the biblical figure Jacob (in the Book of Genesis) and the broader biblical theme of hospitality and shared provision. In many modern uses, a ā€œJacob’s Tableā€ represents:
  • Open hospitality
  • Shared food with no payment required
  • Equality among participants (everyone eats together)

So, should be a good opportunity if we have any FLT’s attending!

I'm poor with no friends so does that mean I can turn up clear the table but not bring anything

HI all,

The Jacobs table will be at 1930hrs.

The Chinese auction you should bring something you would like to take home as you may end the evening with it.

Being of a certain age what is chatgp and FLT?

Would a selection of cheeses be the right thing for old Jacob and his table?

Hi all,

We have an opportunity to distill one of the following at the rally. Please let me know if you would like to be included in the process. Below are the details, this would be on an afternoon.

Limited to maximum of 6 distillers per session, happy to run 2 x sessions. Prefer not to mix gin and rum in the same session unless not many takers. Details below can be copied and pasted straight in if that helps you :giggle:

Gin / Spiced Rum Distilling Session
A chance to distil your own gin or turn rum into spiced rum and experiment with different botanicals to suit your taste.

What you need to bring:
400ml Vodka (for Gin) OR 400ml Rum (White or Dark – depends on your preference)
A clean, empty bottle that holds 300ml
Ā£5 still fee

What you get:
A chance to taste various Gin/Rum ā€˜recipes’
Use of the stills and all the equipment needed to distil your spirit
Botanicals to add to create your flavour*
A lesson in how to distil
300ml of your own Gin / Spiced Rum as an end product

*If you would like to make a soft fruit gin, eg raspberry/strawberry, please bring your own fruit.

Martin

So just to.clarify for anyone who doesn't know, I distill my own gin and make spiced rum for Bri and have offered to run a session or 2 at the rally if anyone would like to have a go.

The bit in Martins post above from 'Gin/ Spiced Rum distilling session' gives you more info or feel free to post any questions 😊

Hi all,

I can recommend the distilling session. I did it last year and learnt so much and ended up with a tasty bottle of spiced rum that I was able to enjoy over the next few months.

Martin

H,

OK Year as I still have some and will bring it to the Easter rally!

No too good for everyday use so special occasions only.

Is this a parallel universe ? I'm interested, simply because I enjoy gin and the like. So, if I bring some gin, can I join in?

If you bring gin you can drink it (you wont be alone) bit if you want to make it you need vodka as a base then we do some hocus pocus and turn it into gin ā˜ŗļø
See the info above on 'what to bring' if you want to have a go, and put your name down

You don't need Vodka ( although that's easiest) home distilled white spirit is acceptable!
Just don't share it! šŸ˜„

Great - just let me know rum or gin 😊

I think I do gin Mrs Quackers as I have a bottle of spiced rum in the cupboard that's been there at least 2 years that I was planning on opening at easter so the gin will give everyone a choice

Thankyou for the time of the Jacobs Table but, is it possible to say what DAY it's happening as I only have a small fridge to keep the ice-cream cold in.

A plan B might be needed? šŸ¤”
