I've booked a 28ft RV for September-October this autumn, hoping to cruise around New England and down to New Orleans & back. I am hoping to focus on scenic rather than cities, but will do Niagara Falls down the Appalachians to Memphis, New Orleans, and back up to New Jersey. I had planned it for 2022 but pandemic issues put us off.

I'm thinking of a mix of RV sites and boondocking, so any advice much appreciated.

We've booked the flights Visas and RV. So it's more case of keeping costs controlled and having a relaxed time. The average days drive is set to around 100miles. So nothing to strenuous.

We did Chicago to Huston over a 4 week period, as there was 4 of us we booked Airbnb for the major towns like Memphis, Nashville, New Orleans and Houston. Although we love the MH we would do this again as you have so much more freedom in the car to go off piste at any time, we had a few days between places and never felt rushed or struggled for accommodation.

As I said the car gave us the freedom to park at places like the Indy track and museum, we also visited Muhammad Ali house and museum which I doubt we could have in an RV, on top of that we had some Motels for under $40.

As its the Fall make sure you book the RV sites well in advance as they fill up rapidly in the Northern states New England etc, make sure if you cross the Rainbow Bridge at Niagara, you have your passports and visas otherwise its a 4 - 5 hour wait in USA Border Control and a lecture!( Ask me how I know!) Visit the Finger Lakes while you are in up state New York, do not miss the Blue Ridge Parkway, go and see Elvis in Memphis or a night at the Grand Ole Opery in Nashville, Jack Daniels distillery,in Kentucky ( Its a Dry State so no tasters!) Hot Springs, and as many of the Civil war battlefields you may pass, the history and storyboards are fascinating

You are in for a treat! A part of our 30k odyssey last year included the Appalachians last summer, all of Skyline Drive, Blueridge Parkway and on through the Great Smokies into Tennessee. Great drive! PM me if you would like a link to our blog that has lots of pictures of that part of the trip. I should say that our trip was by car not motorhome.
