Having sold my 1996 Hymer B594 late last year I'm once again the proud owner of a Hymer; this time a 1990 S700.

It's in excellent original condition but that does also present some problems. It's difficult to make changes and still preserve its originality. While I'm more "motorhome enthusiast" than dyed in the wool Hymer fan, I feel if it has survived this long without being mucked about with, I don't want to be the first!

Does anyone happen to know what the gel colour code (RAL) is for the cream Thetford cassette of the early 90s?

It's almost certainly faded over the years so you may just have to match as best you can.
Is it painted or moulded plastic ?
Looks a tidy example, long overhang, careful on ferries.

Thanks yes it's a very tidy one owner German import. It's actually quite high off the ground (I'm wondering are they all like that) so it has a fairly decent angle of departure.

The only natural light in the bathroom is a translucent skylight so there is little or no fading which will hopefully help if I find the right gel code!

I still think that plastic will discolour over time even without UV damage.
Maybe I'm wrong though, have been before !
Good luck with the hymer, a classic of the future

Excuse my ignorance and then nosiness (in that order) :)(y)

But when you get this gel code what are you going to do?

I can only presume spray paint the bits we can see in the photo, which to me look perfectly acceptable (y)

Is there not a danger of it looking worse?

It's about now you tell us you are a retired spray painter I guess :)

edit - looks a great MH BTW from the photos you have shown (y)

We had the same bench toilet in our 1990's Adria caravan, it was white plastic, there was no sign of fibreglass or gel coat when I had to remove it for an electrical repair.

A thing of immense beauty. (Even though it is rather new...)

I thoroughly approve of your attempts to keep it as original as possible. (y)

Lots of useful info re classic Hymers there.

PS. Ikonic Kampers by any chance?

Your excused!

I'm afraid to admit what I'm up to but it doesn't involve altering the van in any way. The bathroom is in near mint condition and doesn't require any restoration, I'm just adding a dry composting loo which is removable and will sit in the shower. I want it to match. I had planned on removing the Thetford but couldn't bring myself to alter the original bathroom. I will probably muddle through without the exact colour code but it would be nice. I don't think it has faded much because all surfaces look the same but maybe I will have a closer look.

Yes you are right it is plastic. I got confused as the new one is fibreglass. Will that mean there is simply no colour code?

Yes I'm a member of the Classic Hymer page which can be a great resource. No I imported it myself. I hadn't intended to buy a particularly original example but as soon as I saw it and then drove it....that was it!

many many years! since I was a kid
there is no such exact colour code but I have matched it before using a rattle can mixed to match the colour when I had to fit a new flush handle but could only source white

The colour is "bog" standard for the era though

pull the loo roll holder out and take it as a sample of the colour to match

Beautiful Hymer and one to treasure.
I am pretty certain there will have been some fading of the colour. Our much younger 2003 Star-Line has a translucent large roof vent in the shower room (no window) and the plastics have discoloured from the original white to a soft cream. Having said that, I suspect the older cream plastics in your Hymer may be more resistant to fade.

I think you are right. After 27 years I guess there must be some. I will have a closer look but I think probably white would be more prone to fading anyway.
