Just over 2 years ago, and about 5 months prior to my 70th I had a heart attack. A blocked artery was very quickly fixed by stenting and about three mouths later I passed my echo cardiogram and treadmill "stress test" with flying colours and kept my C1/D1. I am now pretty fit but in about 12 months time I will need to renew my licence again, now the question. In your experience / knowledge will DVLA automatically require me to undergo another echo and stress test, just because I had to before or will they make their decision on my current level of health as reported to them by my GP?

Check with your G-P? I know of HGV drivers who have been "tested". But other who haven't?.

Mine is due in April, to keep my C1. Shouldn't be an issue, My B-P has been high recently, But its flattening out now. (The stress levels are coming down!! now we are back in the Bungalow 5 months after the "flood")

My husband had to have an echocardiogram and stress test at 70 due to heart attack and bypass 12 years previously. His licence with C1 was renewed by self certification at 71. We don’t know why it was only a one year licence but I think the new one is for 3 years.

But his first one at 70 was only for one year.

Hmmm?. I did not bother the first 2 years as the last M-H was 3500kg. But then I uprated it to get more payload, that's when I had the medical. (72). The next is this year (75-1/2!). I have heard of guys only getting a one year one on the first, but most seem to then get onto the 3 year cycle?. (BTW, they also took the sight limitation off (code 100 must wear spec`s to drive?) as I had Implants when my cataracts where "done", and my sight complies without glasses).

I had three and half stents inserted in 2001 then a heart attack in 2004 diagnosed type 2 diabetes in 2011. Reached 70 in 2017 had medical applied for licence to retain C1 and was required to have exercise stress test high I must admit halfway through the second 3 minutes nearly threw the towel in but struggled on and managed the 3 x3 minutes and licence was granted for 3 years. Not due again until August 2020 but not sure if Legs and back will stand it again. Ended up with a trapped nerve and had problems walking and unable to use motorhome for a few months.

Interesting thread Dorset Diver , thanks for launching this one. I had a stress test in June before I could start using the C1 part of my license again, following a March heart attack and stent. I will be renewing my C1 in December and very much hoping that I do not have to have another stress test.
