DVLA on the ball, for me at least

Spoke with them yesterday, only 10 minutes wait on the phone, first class service from the young lady, very courteous and answered all my questions about my C1,
apparently as long as you have proof of delivery even if your license has expired you can still exercise your license privileges all the time they are processing your application,

Looks like they are doing current applications before the huge backlog. That investigation found out there were cages and cages of old mail still unopened

Got me thinking if someone has decided that a certain percentage require dealing with within a certain time without considering the backlog. If so there's nothing in it for them to process any applications past the target. It would be very easy to slip into setting targets without considering that

Well done Alan, you have not missed much this year. We are back in France got fed up with being cold & wet in Spain, not much warmer in France, did manage to get the paddleboard board out this morning.

That is correct but you can only drive in the UK.
Even with an international driving licence you must have a current UK in date license present.
I cwaited 8 months for mine from August 2020 to April 2021. Fortunately we were not allowed to travel under the then restrictions or I would have been even more miffed than I was for waiting.

Only in the UK though

Applied on line seven days ago to renew my licence and received my new UK licence today!

I for one will not accept that I need to have 'proof of postage' (or delivery) in order to drive under s88.
The Law doesn't state that. It merely says that s88 covers if you have applied for a new licence.

PS I'm not getting at the author in any way.

I was talking to Max’s great nephews wife last night she works for dvla on the vehicle side and she said this week they have been processing V 5’s sent in by post from 19th April.
Apparently they are employing over a hundred new staff starting in July and all staff are to be back in the office in the next couple of weeks.

Great news I sent off my D2 & D4 applications for my retention of C1 etc on 4/05/22 and today received my new licence 12/05/22 all be it losing two months of my old licence I think that’s a result after hearing all the tales of woe😊
Well done DVLA👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Sounds good, but I wonder what effect the incoming mandate to lose 1/5 of staff in all areas will do to waiting times. Probably be good to renewals in ASAP before that hits (if it goes ahead).

Heard Rees-Mogg arguing that the issue over passports was an example of why they should cut the civil service numbers..... by that logic I assume if we sack all the DVLA staff then everyone's licence issues will suddenly be resolved

No medical problems then.

Seems odd doesn't it you reduce staff if the service is too slow and after leaving notes on people's desks because you think having them in the office is going to get more done you reduce the number of people at desks to get more done!!!!!

Especially notes on hot desks, so it isn't occupied by a particular person anyway!

Regardless of politics and if this does/does not happen, the fact it is hanging over them will have an effect on performance - quite likely negative. So best to get in early and expect delays...

Still waiting for mine posted on 11 February, just says expired when I check.

Just managed to speak to DVLA they said give it till end August !

It’s a slow process for C1 Medical renewal but don’t send it Special Delivery or any signature requirements, they receive these by the sackload, better to send it normal post l am assured the process is quicker as much less backlog of mail.

Could be, she said it was scanned in on 24th February. However at least I had proof of my application which you need under section 88. It would be helpful if they would give you an application number at the time of scanning so that you could use the track my application service which currently is only available online.

Sorry, but having had experience of DVLA's incompetence, and saying that my documents had been lost in the post, I strongly disagree with your advice. DVLA insisted that I pay a fee for a new V5. I refused, by providing evidence showing the date, time, and signature for my letter.........which they (not me), had lost.
I received a new updated V5 within days, at no charge.

Even the HGV Medical Doctor advised to copy everything, and send the originals by tracked and signed for delivery, as he had at least 2 x applicants who had to retake their medical, because DVLA lost their applications. The applicants had no proof of postage to challenge DVLA. :(

Cheers,

Jock.
