My C entitlement was due to expire on the 23rd February. I received the renewal paperwork through from DVLA on 5th January, D4 medical completed on the 18th January and the forms returned to DVLA (signed for) on the 24th January. Cannot believe my new license dropped through the letterbox yesterday morning, so total DVLA renewal time was 17 days which is impressive.

I may have got lucky in that the forms which DVLA sent had a return envelope included, the address started "Vocational License Renewal Team" appears that due to the current HGV driver shortages they have a specific team dealing with these renewals.

All good for another 5 years :)

5 years if under 70 I think, he was renewing C not a C1.
If that's the case, then ten years between renewals unless the OP is 65 and only 5 years until 70.

So why the D4 medical then?

Well I’m still waiting for mine sent email to chief exc still waiting ?

You will be driving for 2 years illegally then. :giggle:
Why would that be?

DVLA medical requirements for "C"" is 5 yearly from the ages of 45 to 65. I still have a fair few 5 yearly's to go yet ;-)

Cut and paste from DVLA Website:

"The HGV medical is a mandatory test for anyone wishing to gain and hold an HGV drivers’ licence. You cannot be issued with an HGV driving license without first passing your HGV medical.

If you are under the age of 45 your HGV medical will last until your 45th birthday, after which you will need to pass the HGV medical assessment every 5 years until the age of 65.

After the age of 65 you will need to pass the HGV medical assessment every year.

There are additional requirements for those who hold restricted licenses and also for NI, EU and EEA license holders whose right to drive Group 2 vehicles in the UK has expired. There are also additional requirements for those applying for a new Group 2 provisional license."

There is a World of difference between the Licence applied for by the OP. and the application
for a C1 Licence.

Our gripe on here is that as far as DVLA are concerned, they couldn't give a flying fig
to those on here who require their Licence to drive +3.5T motorhomes.

They seem to assume that because it is legal to drive in this country, "That's alright then"

NO! It's not.

That Licence is necessary and required to travel abroad.

Got my over 70 licence back today. Its only taken them 10 months and a lot of expense on my part GP, optician. At least it is dated from Apr 1st, not from my last one expiring so I have the full 3 years.

Lots of things DVLA does should be dated 1st April
