is anyone else aware of the DVLA having backlog and delay for registering new motor homes? Or is my dealership blagging me?

Been told it’s taking 3-4 weeks which I find odd.....

Guys at dealership see a woman and think they can say anything .... feel cross if it’s just BS !

I just took delivery a month ago on a grey import Pilote that had to be re-registered through DVLA. It took 12 weeks, even though it was a model already registered in Europe. Shower of useless shite-hawks the lot of them. Not fit for purpose, they should be charged with theft of wages!

Sorry to rain on your parade but be prepared for a long wait. I only got mine on the third delivery date supplied. It nearly caused me to cancel. Don't make any plans afore its on your drive.

Googlify 'DVLA delays' and read some of the horror stories.

Good luck

This is why I’m slightly annoyed as it felt like a ridiculous excuse for them not pulling their thumbs out!

My experience of DVLA has been roughly a 2 week turnaround and I feel they’re quite efficient given the volume they must deal with

Bonkers the dog !!! Really ! Would your delay be the transfer of eu to uk registration .... 12 weeks is crazy though

I do have my cali ocean but really wanted to go in new adria twin

Really sir? Efficient? Can I interest you in some property in Iraq? Much cheapness...

:ROFLMAO::LOL: I just googled it and could find your horror stories, probably best I dont or I’ll just get cross before bed !!

I think it’ll work out and I’ll pick her up before Dorset.... slumming it in my 2017 vw won’t be the end of the world. Getting away will always be the good part of owning a van/ motorhome

Registering a motorhome is no different to registering a car or motorbike...... Its a vehicle like any other.
Obviously when a new reg year comes out there will be delays but that's to be expected.

It's time we adopted the American system.
You buy a vehicle and the dealer gives you a temporary pink slip (ownership document) then you drive away WITHOUT number plates.
When your docs are ready you get number plates issued.

It’s stupid in a digital age that we rely on archaic paper systems and it takes weeks to drive away. I went in and purchased on March 10th..... yawwn

Don’t see what it can’t all be scanned and emails and computer generated !

I’ve just used them last Wednesday to change number on a V5. Did it on line around 3.30pm.
New V5 through the letterbox Saturday:)
So, 2 working days. Super fast

Don't know but the DVLA website wasn't working yesterday or today ...

If the dealer is on the AFRL system it is done online and instantly

If NOT, the dealer has to send all paperwork by post including CoC, then DVLA quote “ up to 10 working days” and I believe they are currently working up to that guideline

Generaly if its a straight forward registration it takes less then 2 weeks unless the dealer messes up the paperwork our motorhome picked up on 8th Feb this year took 10 days and that was with the dealer sending a cheque for the wrong duty amount the V5 arrived the next day after it was registered.

We've just put two plates onto retention and the new V5s and the seperate retention docs took 3-days to arrive.

At work, we do multiple interactions with DVLA daily

On line interactions are, as you have experienced, lightning quick
However, anything via post, is nightmare slow

They must have some reason for the papertrain in everything they do.
I sent in my paper driving licence to get a plastic one, because of Brexit, but I got sent back a HGV/ Bus application and told to fill that in as well, to keep my C1E on it. I have to apply again in November when I hit 70 and do it all again, Bit confused as to why they want the second form done as well.

Well the dealer hasn’t been as prompt in my view, but I await the DVLA fingers crossed it arrives in the coming week

We are at around 7/8 working days so far....

It’s like waiting for Christmas as child ! Knowing it’s all ready and waiting....

I can't fault dvla. They returned my new car registration number within 14 days. Just brilliant.

Just a point to note that as already said most transactions that are done on line are in the main very quick (instantaneous) and efficient.
With respect to the AFRL system this has now been replaced with a new system (RAV). Apparently the two systems cannot "talk" to each other.
With the new system many things have changed with the codings etc. I know for a fact that some dealers have experienced problems with RAV so this will affect certain registrations at some dealers.
Compared to where the DVLA were a few years ago they are certainly much more efficient and online is simple and I am sure that when RAV is fully rolled out normal service will be resumed. When you consider the amount of registrations in the UK plus all the other things, cherished plates, amending taxation classes etc the system is not that bad. Just my experience and we use them nearly every day.
