Try Mollance Campsite, its about 2 miles from Castle Douglas Phone: 01556660471 no need for membership.
Nice heated toilet block, perfectly clean & only takes 5 vans on the private part, they also have a C&MC CL.

350 miles/7hrs from Somerset and 150 miles/3hrs from Stranraer
What time is your boat ?

Halfway is around Manchester, not a place noted for scenic campsites, but there will be some if all you are after is a stopover
