I’m looking for some help.
Recently polished the van using Auto Glym polish. Came up a treat apart from the bonnet which has been left dull.
Not sure why this has occurred but I can’t seem to buff it up!
Any advise on how to fix this? Thanks

As above, and do small sections at a time 4 or 5 inches square and take your time. Instructions will be on t cut bottle

Thanks both.
I’m guessing T-Cut will strip the polish off and then I can clean and re polish??

I normally find that applying the tcut is enough buff. However, will happily stand corrected ?

Ok great I’ll give it a blast at the weekend

thanks?

I had mine re-sprayed.

back around 2015 there was a well documented batch of vans with faulty paint. One of the cheap quick fixes was to put a layer of vinyl wrap on the bonnet. You can detect this by looking at the edges of the bonnet or just underneath for an edge

the proper fix is to sand down and repaint

Ok thanks I’ll check it out?

If it’s really bad you could try a bonnet bra?
they look pretty good & protect from stones etc.

Well every days a school day!
I had to google it because I thought you might be a wind up!!
Thanks I’ll see if I can buff it up if not I’ll get her measured up for a bra! ??

When I saw the thread title "Dull Bonnet" I thought it was some kind of Jane Austen gripe.

Bonnet bra will help it rust over time and will cost about the same as a body shop would to sort it out, the choice is yours!

Is the bonnet galvanised before being painted? You don't see rotting panels on cars or vans nowadays do you. Certainly not like in the 70s and 80's ?

Try a search on eBay. I got ours from a German company. It’s fully fitted & clips underneath. Appears to be waterproof & has a soft felt backing. Obviously treat any rust before fitting.
Ours is a 2003 ducato & fits well. If yours is the same make sure to request one without nipple holes for the washers. Best way is to remove existing washers fit bra then cut holes & refit washers.
Our bonnet was scratched & chipped by stones etc & looked pretty grotty.

Just Fitted ours.
remarkably easy & I think looks so so much better that The scratched & chipped original. It’s held on with elastic straps so can easily come off to check under.
i just need to fit washer jest & all done

Thanks for that I’ll give it a go next time I give it a clean. I don’t understand how the rest of the van came up like a new pin after polishing but the bonnet was dull! Hey ho! Thanks again👍

That looks to me like it's a brand new bonnet that has been fitted and not painted 😁
No offence 😊

I would clay bar it first, use a light polish such as Meguiars,do a small section at a time,,it will take some elbow grease but worth it,, then apply a good wax,,I have noticed that some funsters recommendation T Cut which is fine, but quite abrasive and can affect your top coat,,bearing this in mind, always finish with a good wax,,as polish, is a totally different thing and leaves no protection on your paint.

Ps, if you know someone who has a DA polisher, you’ll do the whole bonnet in half an hour.
