Due to drop to freezing point tonight

I did mine on Friday then took it for a spirited 20 mile run around the lanes with all drain taps open hoping it would swish out any remaining water.

I'm away at the end of next week for an owner's group meet so I'm hoping not to need to drain my tank beforehand. Especially as we're under a hosepipe ban here, so re-filling it will be a long and slow process with watering cans... Temp is so far not going below freezing in my area. After this trip I'll drain down.

If you are filling for drinking and whasing it dose not come under the hose pipe ban I am lead to believe

Good frost here, grass white in the open. Near Bedford.

Good warning. I missed it and came on to post that we hit -3°C here last night.

We got down to 5c overnight in Eastbourne. Not a frost but feels chilly. I think the Truma valve opens around 8c
Blimey I thought we lived in a cold spot in Sussex 8.5 here last night.
Truma dump valve opens at 3°, on the older electric one I think it's 6°.

Does it open irespective of there being water in it? Or only if water in it
?

The reason i ask is my drain taps and frost stat are mid floor under the shed (no garage, just a shed) and normally has shedloads on top of the trap door, thus not very accessible.. I have replaced the trap door with a perspex one and the drain taps always open with inline taps added bellow floor accessable from outside.

weather said could drop below freezing last night so i went to the storage and drained everything down yesterday afternoon. Glad I did as it was -2°C up here in some areas. Almost had to put a thick tee shirt on :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Had to de-ice the car this morning. A heavy frost had set-in.

Away in 3 weeks to Spain so ahd been hoping I cold have left it but glad I kept an eye on the weather.

also noticed that as the weather has been not good the last couple of weeks the solar is struggling to keep both the engine and leisure batteries charged. Checked the output from the panel into the charge controller and it was only 18.6V at mid-day today.

Don’t tell us you’ve had to change out of your shorts already!

Sorry if this is a dumb question but does the valve open regardless if temp drops? But surly doesn’t open if in use, if I’m using the van all winter??

Check what type you have.
For example, Truma have auto and manual dump valves.

Manual

Edit. Sorry. Meant to quote coutts1983 query

Just curious kevenh but what is the black T -shaped handle to the right of the Truma dump valve?

It will dump at the temp it is designed to operate at regardless however it is unlikely to get to that temp when using the van as you will have heating ( space and water) on and appliances etc generating heat.

Sorry. I don’t know. It’s just a stock image from the internet. Not my Motorhome 👀

If I ever have to rely on Tinder, I’ll also get an image from the internet! 🙂

If you are using the van and keeping it warmish it won't open

Having had a dump valve open while driving in very cold weather with heating on, I wouldn't be so sure it won't open. In my case it was even worse as I'd left the water pump on and it emptied the fresh tank too leaving me in Northern France in freezing winter weather with no water.
Depends on the location of the valve, mine was close to a large vent.
