We have a new X290 which we are currently away in.
The sliding mechanism on the front passenger seat has completely jammed, meaning that the seat can't be moved backwards or forwards. It also means it can't of course be swivelled.

Has anyone any experience of this problem or any ideas? Of course we'll get the 'van back to the dealer, but we need to do something now.

Thanks in advance

Have you checked to see if there is anything trapped in the rack? If anything like ours there are loads of cables under there.
You could unbolt the seat to lift it up and get a better look, take care they are heavy.

Thanks Lenny, I can't see anything obvious, although there's lots of Alde kit under there. I can't unbolt it because I don't have any star bits with me and it's stuck over two of the bolts!

I had a similar problem when my van was only a few weeks old. I took it in to a Peugeot dealership and it turned out that the locking/adjusting bar is only held in by tension and trying to operate it ‘off centre’ can cause one of the ends to release. They fixed it without removing anything, so give that a go first.

I’ve been very careful to make sure my hand is dead centre of the bar before lifting it and it’s never jumped out since.

I have just had a problem with my new Ducato based Camper seat runner in that it doesn't lock in - just slides ip and down! You have to push the bar down to lock it in position. Will have a look at it at the weekend.

As Kingham said. Don't pull or push the seat by the release bar. Only use the bar to release the mechanism and move it with your other hand.

If it has popped out of its frame, you can wraps a tie strap or rope around both arms, put a piece of wood, spanner or similar between the straps and rotate it to twist the straps and pull the arms of the bar inwards. That should release it enough to move the ends of the bar back into their correct positions. If you're not sure how they locate, use the other seat as a reference.

Thanks Deneb,
Will try that at weekend.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions, all of which I tried with no success.

In the end, the dealer took the seat base off and found that the locking mechanism was distorted and therefore jamming.

Without quibbling, he swapped it immediately for one from another 'van.

All is now good!
