I haven't had any experience in fitting one but I'm looking forward to your report after you have.

With the weight of the door and amount of effort required to soft close it, I wonder how long the nylon/plastic gear will last.

Great idea, but why can’t manufacturers make things that’ll last?

I looked in to this last year, there's a vid on YouTube if you search for it.
No good for us as the kitchen unit covers where it needs to go.
Ideally for us a simple pullover clamp to just close it the last inch is all we would need, rather that a full door closing system.

I would have thought the concept of soft closing cut any effort down dramatically thus not causing pressure on the mechanism.
Perhaps we might yet get a comment from someone who has one.

Likewise, our kitchen unit would get in the way. My reason for slamming the sliding door (from the inside) is there is no other way to achive the final and very important last centimetre closing at the back of the door otherwise the central locking doesn't work. Closing the front is easy. If you are outside, you can close the sliding door more quietly.

I noticed from Littlewheels video there seems to be a safety bleeper warning noise when it is in operation. I can imagine that would annoy people on the pitch next door as much as the whoosh-slam noise. Like the video, you could play some jaunty music to cover that bleeping.

That's an intersting item - Ive never seen or heard of one before.

Not that it helps you at all but the standard soft close system on a Fiat PVC (costing £799 these days to fit) usually lasts between 2-3 years depending on usage levels.

That said, and as SpeedyDux has just identified, there's quite a few vans that this wouldn't fit due to their layouts; I reckon contiential vans would be a no-no.

Judging by some of the slambang mob we've had parked next to us, that mechanism will be worn out in a week.

about twice the price of the last ones posted?
