Brake fluid change 30k miles or 2 years was yours done, mine is now two years old 5000 miles on clock really seems unnecessary, ok I stick by the book in case of warranty issues but another money spinner ?
I don't think this is a requirement on most cars.

Mine isn't due until May, but I thought they usually test the existing fluid to ensure it hasn't absorbed moisture and if ok leave it. I shall speak to the dealer.

As a matter of interest larry, where are you getting it serviced?

many many years! since I was a kid
brake fluid is hydroscopic so absorbs water over time, reducing braking ability. it does need changing, but many people dont bother till they start feeling the effects at mot time

It was done yesterday at Becks, they did damp check, the service , oil, filter, all the checks and greased the Alko rear axle but no mention of brake fluid. I only picked it up as have a letter from Desira at Diss who mentioned it.

They can measure the amount of water in it now and only change it when necessary

I guess your moho is out of warranty now because I didn't think Becks can do the mechanical service while under warranty.

That's news to me Brian
I have mine booked into Simpsons for the mech service & Becks the following day for damp test etc ... I will call them in the morning, it would certainly be more convenient for Becks to do both at the same time.

Just had mine serviced at a Fiat Professional dealer at two years and around 12000 miles and they did not tell me the brake fluid needing changing. I assume they tested it in some way.

But after the brakes failed on my VW Caddy I would definitely recommend it be done regularly.

My Burstner was just out of warranty and Becks would not do the mechanical service on it. Really disappointed with that.

On 3rd motorhome from Becks first one was new Burstner they done all servicing for the 5years we had it. Then bought 2 used vans they have serviced them for 5 years.
I know different vehicle but Nissan have for at least the last 13 years that I have had one change brake fluid every 2 years in service book.

Just another way of making money in my view, just had my audi a6 in for its first service 2 years old 7,000 miles, £320 for the service then got a call saying it need the aircon serviced which is a requirement every 2 years @ £70 extra also the pollen filter @ £62 extra then to top it off the panoramic roof had to be serviced every 2 years @ £140 extra needless to say I said i would pass on them and the adviser said he would have to record that they were not done so would affect any warranty claims.
If the car had of been 3 years old they would have done a fix price service for £170 no wonder they are called stealers instead of dealers or and the labour charge was £120 / hr:cry:

It was a while ago now but a Funster (can't think who) did buy one of these to check their own brake fluid.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BERGEN-TOOLS-Pro-BRAKE-FLUID-TESTER-for-DOT-3-4-5-Test-For-Water-LED-Display/261830761845?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649#rwid

I'm not sure if they ever posted back whether it was any good or not. I bookmarked it in my eBay, but never got around to getting one.
I've got one but haven't used it yet ... must dig it out and give it a go.

Becks always did the service, MOT and hab check on mine. Oh and I tagged you on another thread regarding servicing Larry but I'd forgotten Becks when I replied as I don't use them now.

How much do Becks charge for that service? Now out of warranty with Fiat so was thinking of using them.
