I`ve been for a run in the Hymer today to blow some cobwebs off and noticed the blower fan only works on speeds 1 and 4, I noticed last year speed 3 had gone but could manage without that.
Is it likley to be the resistor pack ?
If so does anyone know where I`d find it ?
It`s a 2003 Ducato 2.8 JTD

Many thanks

Chris

Easy to get at, it lives under the passenger side of the lower dashboard. One of the very few genuine "ten minute jobs".

D.

PS, unless its melted the wiring then it takes a bit longer!

Any idea where I might find it, I`d guess it will be in one of the vents to or from the heater matrix but does anyone have any idea which side I should start looking ?

OK, so I replaced the resistor pack today and guess what, fan still only works on speeds 1 and 4
Does anyone have any idea what else it might be ?

@revolver Thanks for the info. I think you may me a newer model than my 2003 Ducato but useful non the less. I don`t think I have a pollen filter.
I did`t really inspect the wiring carefully but it didn`t appear to have suffered overheating or scorching but I`ll take it apart again tomorrow and check the wiring.
Will it just be the wiring in the last 6 inches or so to the plug, or could overheating appear further up do you know ?

OK, about 6 inches of cable inspected back up the loom and contacts in plug, and no sign of scorching or melting evident !
Could it be the four speed switch is faulty ? Could I check this with a multimeter.
Should I see different volts on the resistor pack contacts depending on which fan speed is selected ?
Or anything else it might be ?
TIA

Hi, after receiving advice on the fiat forum it looks like it might be switch that is at fault.
Has anyone ever removed this centre consul which houses the fan switch, heater knob, air flow direction etc.
Doesen`t look an easy remove but if anyone done it before I be interested to hear.
Sourced a new switch on ebay if I find I can remove it !

Yes there is a screw in the drink holder but surely there must be more to it than that ?
Take control knobs off there might be screws behind them

Hi

I think (from memory) you have to remove the radio, then can unscrew the map holder / radio casing thingy via two screws at rear by windscreen then lift off.

This exposes the top of the heater control panel , two screws from memory ,then there are two active the ashtray. I think the cup holder is separate.

By way of an update, @danielf you are correct with the removal of radio / heater control panel and ashtray.
I replaced the 4 speed blower switch, ÂŁ19.99 off ebay.
It`s quite fiddly but can be done with a bit of manipulation.
All back together now and working nicely (y)

Hi, I have this problem. Heater/Blower Fan speed only works on setting 4.

Here's my dash (2008 Hymer B544).
Is the blower resister behind the passenger glovebox A or central glovebox B ?

On my 2008 van it is under the passenger glove box (A). Stick your head in the footwell, and look up. The loom and the resistor are clearly visible. From memory, the resistor is retained by one bolt, and then has to be slid sideways a bit, to release it from securing lugs. I Will check and re-post if it's different. I replaced part of the loom, as well, as it was charred - came as part of the kit.

I purchased a Resistor Pack and Loom Repair kit.
EDIT ......
See this post for details:

This is a well discussed fault, with numerous posts. Some of the links to different posts may take you in circles!!! :D

Thanks.

I'll check in daylight with a mirror. It's been failing then working then failing for 2 years so it sounds like the resistor has been deteriorating.

Do you know whether glovebox (A) just pulls out? I need all the room I can get.
