Hi I have the (original Fiat) wing mirrors similar to the below on my Ducato, recently they have started to fold in at motorway speed.

I've prized off the circular cap on the bottom but there appears to be in a star nut type arrangment in there.

Jammed a surplus bit of rubber in as a temory fix on the way back from France from last year but need to sort before this season.

Anyone managed to tighten these? at first glance it would appear they don't really want you to :giggle:

Thanks!

Yes I recall that thread too. I seem to remember it was a case of tightening that nut

If its anything like the bottom nut on mine, it was rusted solid (very difficult to hold the body to get my big impact driver on it)
I had the opposite problem, a few years ago, on my short arm mirror. I could not fold it inwards so I had to fit a new one (very reasonably priced from Coastal if I remember correctly?)

Thanks everyone, I’ll have a crack at getting the cover off

Got nothing to loose really as committed to getting a new one - if I can fix will be a bonus

Thankyou! I still have my old mirror (kept it for the indictor and tilt mechanism) so I will try what has been suggested. :giggle:

I have just stripped my spares one, the back case does prises off but first one has to remove mirrors and indicator lens (2 very small screws), extract indicator bulb,) then there is 3 phillip headed screws.
After these have been extracted, carefully prise off cover with flat headed screwdriver or something.
There appears to be no nut on bottom hinge (Both mine are seized, (so have WD40'd them) and there is another large screw in the centre of the top hinge which appears to expand the plastic inner (similar to a Raw-plug)

I will try and put up picture after my camera have charged up. The battery is dead flat so it will be later tonight.

I will try and put pictures on as promised, sorry about mess in storage room
The 3 pictures are of the mirror, removed from van and its back taken off, the bright screw in the centre picture is the tension adjuster (I only think because, at the moment, it's still solid on mine) Hope this helps!
(PS. mine is off a 2007 Ducato and its a short arm mirror)

EDIT: Just seen Landy Andy's below and the long arm mirror fittings look completely different from the short arm version.
