Hello. I have recently bought a 2022 Hobby Vantana on a 6.4m Ducato. From the first night that we slept in our van, the emergency braking system which is part of the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) was showing a fault when we set off, which became intermittent then eventually cleared. 2 Fiat professional dealers investigated and both came up with "environmental conditions" (direct sunlight, fog, reflected light or dirt on the surface) as the problem. If I stopped and turned off the ignition, the fault would clear, only to return again shortly afterwards. As the ADAS camera is swept by the windscreen wipers and the screen was always clean and there was not really any direct light, then I was not really sure what was causing the issue.

Having just had a nice 30 day trip into the wild (very wild and wet) West Country, I was able to see that the problem is the misting/condensation that you get on the inside of the windscreen when it is cold outside and warm in the van. Once the windscreen has demisted, the screen directly in front of the camera takes a lot longer de-mist, but when it is clear the fault goes away completely and the ADAS works as intended.

So - am I alone in this problem, or do other camper Ducato owners with the 2022 model ADAS have the same problem? Maybe a good case for “silver screens” in the colder months or more investigation by Fiat to see why the glass in front of the camera mists up!

Any help is much appreciated.

Agreed ADAS windscreen probs do occur.
If the area behind the black plastic cover is misted the camera may be obscured. Can also happen with bright sunlight. See post below.

Thanks Drexl. The thread that you linked says it all and confirms my suspicions and thoughts around getting a silver screen. Never had this ADAS problem with my "old school" VW Transporter LOL..... Cheers Eddie.

We have a 'Rainbow" external insulated screen cover. Currently in the Cairngorm's and last night +3 deg C. Took them off at 0900 this morning and the external windscreen warm to the touch. No condensation internally.

I’ve had the same problems, first occasion during very very heavy rain which is mentioned in the Fiat full manual. It also affected my lane departure warning system. No faults found by Fiat.

Then later when internal screen condensed, the braking system warnings came on.

It’s cleared eventually both times but not as quick re the rain, even days after it had stopped.

Cheers Roy. It's not ideal, but something the average goods ducato driver does not encounter, only campers enjoying a nice warm place to sleep on a cool night. Incidentally - where did you manage to find the "full" Ducato manual for the 2022 model? Mine only came with the short version and I cannot find a 2022 full version online! Only the older ones with the different (older) dash....

Is there a QR code showing somewhere in your short version of the handbook? I scanned mine and it led to the 368 page one which covers all versions and options.

R100SRS There is a Q code in the small book, I’d attach the manual in pdf for you but it’s too big. You’ll have to download it yourself.

Fiat did say that if it persisted they would have the van and have Fiat technical log into the system to take a look at it, so that’s promising, but it is not a safety issue they suggested to drive with the warning light on, especially when you know of the inclement weather issues being the likely cause.

If your having problems message me and we’ll sort something out I’m sure. Off to bed now 😜

R100SRS Just picked my van up from the storage compound and the inner screen was quite full of condensation. I guessed when I started the ignition the ADAS warnings would both be on the dash, and they were 😜 I’m off for a drive in it tomorrow and I expect them to clear at some point. If they don’t Ill post back here

Loads of ‘Bells and Whistles’ means loads of things to go wrong 🤪

We have given up after a year in our 2021 Adria van and have just bought a set of silver screens. The last time we went away the camera stopped working on the second night and for the rest of our admittedly wet trip. in fact, even after driving for some hours with the aircon on, on it still didn’t clear the condensation which you could clearly see from the outside. I then left the van for 4 weeks well ventilated until our next trip but it still hadn’t cleared so I then tried to see if I could physically dry the condensation but l couldn’t get anything under the mirror housing. Eventually, it did clear and started working fine but only after another three hours of driving with the air con on. We are currently away and have had -4 at night and the silver screens have worked fine. Not even a little bit of condensation on the camera. It just makes the internal fixed blinds useless for parts of the year.
Good news is there is a relatively cheap and easy way to sort it but it doesn’t involve Fiat or your warranty.

All these ‘Bells & Whistles’ are now a requirement in the EU on new vehicles and as most are built there and not here I guess we will get them too even if not legally required

Went out in the van today but I’d put a frost protection screen on during this recent cold weather. No condensation on the screen and all safety features working with no warning lights on 😊

Had the day out in the van today and found a new time the brake warning light came on rather than rain or condensation.

It had not been on all day but as we set of home the very low strong sun appears to have affected the camera. When it went off the screen the warning light went off.

I’m guessing it was the sun as I now think anything that affects the camera is the problem?

The sun shinning directly into the camera is defiantly one of the trigger points for the braking system warning light to come on. It’s a problem with the low sun at this time of year and just another aspect of the system that we have to accept..... It will be fine in high summer when the sun is overhead and there is no overnight condensation ! LOL.....

Had the warning come on the other day as if it had detected something too close and was braking for me. Didn’t actually brake, I don’t think, but this is second time now since last August 2022. It went out immediately and didn’t come on again that day down the motorway

This ADAS system with its inherent faults is probably another reason why FIAT are delaying their MOHO chassis builds until they’ve got a fix. This system may well be an EU requirement on M1 class vehicles but not N1 commercial vehicles so they’ll just stick to the “Bobby Basic” panel vans. Problem, for now, solved!
