Hi, has anyone moved or duplicated the standard dashboard central locking button into the rear habitation area?
Regards
Nick.

I just use the key fob to lock us in - but I only press once so the deadlocks don't come in. Hard to get out in a rush if they are. :)

That is one way... I'd like to have a (the) locking button probably above the sliding side door the flashing led would be a nice to have as well to locate the button in the dark.
I haven't tried opening the existing button from the dashboard yet.. there will probably be a hundred wires attached to it knowing my luck.!

From memory, the panel pops off fairly easily. The the buttons on that one row are connected with one big connector block. You could try disconnecting it, then just seeing which pin goes high/low when you press it. You might be able to splice something in?

The harder part will probably be routing that wire to where you need it.

Think I have a part solution.
Looking at the Fiat Training manual page 146/187.
Simply running two wires from pins 3 and 4 to a simple on/off switch to an alternate location works as long as the original dashboard switch is left permanantly on.
When second (rear) switch is open the locks are activated. (BECAUSE THE DASHBOARD SWITCH TELLS THEM TO BE.)
When the rear switch is closed the door locks unlock.
Not ideal but a first step maybe.

Surely if you do that and your alarm is wired into the CANBUS you won't be able to turn off the internal sensors unless you use the key fob or button on the dash (depending on install).
Just hope you don't need a pee in the night.:D

No ... the addition of the second switch simply parallels the dashboard switch and replicates the low/high states.

The remote idea is ok it puts the switching at or near the dashboard switch.
What I want is a permanent switch in the rear area to lock everything up without fumbling around for the key fob or remote fob.

I'm not sure my ducato has internal sensors?

Thinking about the remote switch suggestion....

There is opportunity to fit a remotely operated normally open switch of this type across pins 3 and 4 and using the remote outside the van to open the doors...
I haven't fully thought this through but it seems reasonable?

Once we are in for the night I push the locking switch, check that the red light doesn't flash, and go to bed.

In an emergency such as fire we could escape via the barn doors though I admit the door handle is difficult to get at being below mattress level.

That's what I do at the moment.
Regarding the barn doors I've cut a hole in the bed base to reach the handle.

Until it drives you mad lighting up the inside of the van.

Run all 3 wires from 2,3,4 to an identical switch then it will operate exactly as the original , surely? I take it that it is a spring loaded switch?

That's exactly the best solution.
But I don't think that the switch is available separately. (Seems that the switch is part of a cluster with a multi connector)
The uncertainty is as you rightly noticed... is the switch momentary or hopefully toggle.
Fiat seems to use a nonstandard symbol on the circuit diagram.
I've pressed my ear against it to listen, but the door locks make such a noise that I can't recognise the recognisable click.

Leave the remote at the rear? That's what I assumed you would do.

Sorry I wasn't clear I was saying the physical switch mechanism near/behind the dashboard switch and the remote in the habitation area ( or even outside the van).
Obviously the remote signal is not so secure as the key fob signal.
