Does anyone know if the aerial in the drivers mirror or up under the windscreen or reception is not as good as I would like and I would particularly like to improve the LW reception when abroad

Thanks

Mike

Not in the mirror or under screen on a 2005 ducato. Std locations would be on top of original cab roof of on o e of the front wings. Chances are it was on the roof until the coaching body was added then they forgot to add a decent replacement.

Thanks Dave, the vehicle is a low profile coachbuilt with a fibreglass front nose
Its not on the front wing so I guess its somewhere inside a door pillar or just a top the windscreen
Mike
PS The cruise control you fitted some years ago is still working fine!

Of course it is, they are very reliable

Ours is a different model and although an aerial is factory fitted in one door mirror, Autosleeper then fitted a shark fin type on the roof but the working aerial is a length of metal rod behind the trim on the drivers side windscreen pillar, it’s not perfect but ok reception wise.

Thanks both it looks lke I will have to pull the radio out and trace the aerial cable- a job for when it gets warmer!

bit of an update in that the aerial seems to be on the back of the low profile fibreglass nose. The only way to get to it is by cutting a hole sorry Inspection panel in the back of the centre front locker
and SWMBO doesnt like holes!
Cant tell if it has just a sheet ally or foil ground plane or whatever just crap VHF reception
Mike

Fit a new ariel in the A pillar left of the screen. I have my 2012 there

Thanks any chance of a picture?
There seems to be a correct place on the back of the drivers wing but I cant look at one to work it out

Have now got a suitable aerial but still unsure of best place to drill. At the moment it looks like my best bet would be to take the battery out and open large hole in the inner wing with just a 10 mm in the outer.

Come on chaps someone must have done this before me!

Thanks

Mike

I have just fixed my poor reception on our X250 based motorhome, put a new aerial lead in from the status amplifier in the wardrobe and down through bed lockers and then under cab floor to back of radio, great reception now on all channels.

Welll that one way of doing it as most of the aerial amps do cover VHF as well as the uhf bands . Quite a lot of work but wouldnt help with Long Wave, thats what we use when in Europe
Thanks for the thought

Mike

No problems, only took a couple of hours to do.

So, after lots of researching i decided that The Place To Drill was behind the battery on the offside wing and I expected to have to make an access hole in the inner wing and then a cover plate.
I took out the starter battery ( disconnect earth first) and found, high up behind it, a large rubbber bung where the cable to the indicator repeater gets through. Looks the same on the nearside wing as well but too near the CPU.

Perfect, drilled small hole in outer wing and painted the edges with primer and bingo.
Wont quite know how much better it is until we go on a trip but the FM is certainly finding more stations so I am hopeful.
Slight problem seems to be a lot of RF noise from the rear camera- suspect its via the 12v supply so will have a look and fit some ferrites in the lead feeding it

Only took an afternoon from start to finish SWMBO watching Tennis
