ducato 2.3
Hello,
My fiat Ducato loss of power happened just a month after the warranty finished.
At first it was happening on random days and back to normal till the point that went to limp mode, even though, it was ok for the first few minutes when I started the van.
I took it to my mechanic and after take it to another 3 mechanic including the fiat (Glenn Hopkins). I end up replacing the injectors as the fiat suggested. After this the problem was gone for a few months till last month that happened again. this time was worst as the van loss power completely.
So I checked myself with a mechanic friend all the injector and the wiring from the ecu to the injectors as the faulty that shows is injectors supply faulty. Everything seems to be ok. Once we put the ecu back the problem was gone again for a few minutes as it happened everytime that I don’t use it for a while.
I am about to send the ECU to test and repair. If someone has a similar experience and can with any advice I would be so grateful winter is here an last year I didn’t have my camper and this year is looking same😢

THANK YOU!

We had a sudden power loss in France on a Ducato which turned out to be the turbo air hose jubilee clip wasn't tightened on properly. Unlikely in your case but maybe worth a check.

If you had new injectors fitted by fiat and it’s only been a few months then I would be taking it back and asking why do I still have injector problems.
If it is scanned with the right software when the fault is on then it should indicate the problem.

Intermittent faults are difficult I just had one on my wife’s Tiguan and it took me 3 weeks and a spot of luck to find it was a connector that the securing clip was not holding so after a few miles of road bumps the fault would appear.

Sounds like the suction control valve is sticking, especially if it goes into limp mode after a few minutes and more if the van is left standing for a while

I had my Ducato 130Multijet 2009 year go into limp mode almost as i turned into the M40 Oxford services two days ago. The AA report says this

PATROL FOUND THE FOLLOWING FAULT CODE/S:. . SYSTEM : GLOBAL OBD II - 32R / GLOBAL OBD II. . STATUS :P0089 - FUEL PRESSURE CONTROL VALVE 1. ERROR MESSAGE : MALFUNCTION. FAULT STORED.. STATUS :P0638 - THROTTLE VALVE CONTROL (BANK 1). ERROR MESSAGE : OUTSIDE SPECIFIED RANGE. FAULT STORED.

We are due to go to Skye next week but taking it into the garage tomorrow for them to have a look. Both coolant and oil levels OK. We drove it home keeping to a max of 50mph (the AA man suggested max of 60mph on his report) with no issues appearing. Anyone any suggestions bearing in mind we are booked to go to Skye from West Midlands on Monday but also booked to have the garage check it out tomorrow, Friday. I am seeking their advice as to whether to cancel the trip. A bit wary for time as it took about three weeks last year to get the clutch parts as we had a trip with cutch failure.

Thank you for your comments! I still haven’t solved the problem… ecu seems to be find I’ll check the valves as you advice. Any other suggestions?

The ability to read error codes and live date should be at top of list.

There are shedloads of cheap ELM327Bluetooth adaptors that work with Generic OBD but not specific Fiat codes and PIDs.
I also use The Vgate-iCarPro from ebay used with multiecuscan alfaobd and torque pro.
Since youv'e already had injector issues , injector variation is where i would start.
Below is a template i created and use for my twin egr ducato (2017)

Once you have the equipment and need any assistance or have a csv of data post here and i will help. or pm me.

Didn't it always seem to be the the exhaust DPF that was faulty - blocked.
Nobody seems to have mentioned it. Is it not a thing any more
I was the problem on my 2012 after five years.

Hi Eduardo13,
We currently have a similar problem, Amber light on and loss of power. Local garage guy came out on Thursday and suggests it's to do with the emissions as the Fiat ducato is very sensitive to this. (please note I'm not a technical or mechanical person.)

He's going to arrange to look at it at his garage but not sure what this will cost.

I have however found this:

Yours is 2018, although my reg is 2019, having done a VIN check is a 2018 engine.

I have also noted a recall for ducato in 2017 to do with EGR.

I am going to contact Fiat tomorrow and see what I can do as I'm just out of warranty but if its linked to the above I will be seeking some Free assistance.

Apologies if this was not helpful.

You both have the twin egr engine that has its peculiarities, The need to monitor live data is important and tells a lot more than DTCs. Being prearmed with information may help.
To read fiatcodes not just Generic stuff the best diy solutions are multiecuscan or alfa obd both available in a Windoze version, alfaobd also as android. UK distributor for multiecuscan is Gendan, fiat's will not work with cheap Bluetooth dongles, for about £25 ebay seller in Porthcawl vgate bt4. a yellow adapter is also needed to read some of the other ecus .either of these Software is required to reset oil life/ service for a euro6.

I’ve recently had very similar symptoms on my 2018 (loss of power, check engine light and then limp mode) which took 3 visits to my garage to find as the code kept clearing. It was the Mass Airflow sensor.

Many thanks the1andonly.

Most of this unfortunately means nothing to me, so if i was prearmed, I wouldn't really know what to do.

I will try and digest the info you sent, try and grt a better understanding of these problems.

I'm pi@@@@@@d off as the resolution to this problem is costs around £6k.

However through local Fiat service centre, Fiat have agreed, as a gesture of goodwill they will pay for the parts about £5k leaving us with the rest. We will be pursuing Fiat!!!!

The problem lies, I believe, with Fiat ducato engines between 2015-2019, built in Italy, without Adblue. Problems tend to occur shortly after warranty runs out, after 12000 miles.

The diagnostic readings relate to

Ducato P0401 P0402 P0236 P0238 and limp mode

I understand that it's a minefield to understand but ultimately requires replacement of 4/5 parts new parts including, injectors, DPF, LP EGR, LP EGR cooler, HP EGR, intercooler.

I have found very useful help in the Fiat Forum, the post title as above with Fred astaire, Baz in Kent &, one and only being really helpful.

This problem and another repair due in Feb 23 is leading us to thinking about selling MHome, we can't throw away ££££££.

Sad, disappointing and demoralising.

Do you know what code or circumstances lead them to change the MAF?
