Attached an additional cable to the threaded 2nd pole of leisure battery so both threaded poles are different sizes tried metric nuts but not quite right so bit of searching ends up 1 pole is 5/16 the other is 3/8 bsw.

Cant understand why they are not both same size considering wiring is colour coded.

Anyway managed to get nuts as wingnuts so no spanner needed to undo them or tighten them

I think its called the "belt and bracers" approach, and have you seen Hymer's colour coding of power cables:xrofl:

So I guess then that the +ve will have the larger stud.

Even the most up to date digital camera still has a 1/4" BSW tripod bush fitted to it, surprised they hadn't been merticfied years ago, didn't know that about the battery terminals though.

All pipe threads are still imperial bsp sizes even in Europe

Yep I know about the pipe fitting - only the yanks use some strange thread for their pipes.
I have come across another surprising thread size recently, but blessed if I can remember what it was.

Hymers use of colours for what are DC supply cables is completely logical. I don't know why anyone would think they should match the colours used for AC?

What make of battery still uses BSW?

Our leisure batteries are twin terminal and the threaded stud is their either BSW or UNC as the threads for that diameter are the same tpi and thread angles are very similar. I also have a twin terminal battery that came of a classic yank tank that was imported and the thread is the same as our leisure batteries as I use the nuts of the yank one for one of our batteries so I suspect that the thread might be UNC.

Brown and blue are AC colours and have been for many years

For Hymer to use those for DC is confusing

My Swift has a brown/blue wire from the positive terminal of the leisure battery, and orange/ white from the neg for the 12v supply.
As far as I can remember, my Autosleeper was the same.

Schnaudt do the brown negative thing.
Sargent do the too thin white negative thing.

CBE do it better and cheaper. Never thought I would say that about Italian electrics!

Agreed for blue - but brown is used as 0v on a number of cars. It's only confusing if assumptions are being made. No-one would find a brown wire on a car & wonder if it was AC Live, or a blue wire and think it might be AC Neutral. Every mains cable in the Hymer, without exception, is a three wire flex that includes a green/yellow earth.
