RP Rebel on order
Exp
Newbie
Hi, I'm 62, test passed in 1975. However I've moved from UK to Isle of Man then back again. So my licence has been changed twice.

How do I check whether I can legally drive (say) a 4.1T PVC on my licence?

What are the issues regarding a PVC plated higher than 3.5T? Are there any ferry or insurance considerations?

My wife (49) cannot currently drive a car, but she has a full Isle of Man motorbike licence which we hope to transfer to a UK licence. Then follow that with driving lessons & whatever upgrade may be needed.

My question is because RP offer a "free" plating upgrade on the Rebel from 3.5T up to 4.1T if required.
(The Rebel is built on a 5.9m Merc Sprinter AWD high top.)

You need a C1 licence to drive anything heavier than 3.5 tonnes. Check what your licence says.

Thank you.

My licence has start & end dates for C1. With "01" in part 12 which I assume are notes?

If you look along the edge of the licence it shows you what each column is 12 is described as Codes. Which doesn't really help us.... Your C1 end date should be your 70th birthday or thereabouts. After that you lose the entitlement unless you go through a medical to retain it, repeated every three years. Nothing to worry about yet for you.

Edit: Just checked on DVLA site. 01 is Eyesight correction.
